Ethical issues of preimplantation diagnosis
ŠVECOVÁ, Zuzana
This thesis focuses on the ethical aspects of pre-implantation diagnosis. Reproductive and fetal medicine experienced fast development in recent years. Thanks to this, we are not able to see all the possible consequences that this development may bring. This work specifies the assisted reproduction and its methods. Integral parts of this problematics are: the reasons for undergoing this treatment, the definition of the status of the embryo and the human dignity of human being before birth. The fundamental part is the ethical evaluation of pre-implantation diagnosis, which is related to its legal qualifications. Method for the preparation of this work is the study of relevant literature, especially in the field of medical ethics. With this study I conclude, that pre-implantation diagnosis as a method leading to the embryo selection for the purpose of the birth of healthy children, is completely unacceptable for many reasons.
