ŠPALKOVÁ, Kristýna
The aim of the thesis called Heroines´ Revolt against Convention of Contemporary Society in D. H. Lawrence´s and E. M. Forster's Masterpieces is an analysis of women´s behavior in contrast with prejudice and moral principles of Victorian society in the 19th century. The novels' female characters' rebellion is presented in a form of a struggle for greater independence in their relationships with men and a fight against persistent rigid moral principles of the society and also their battle for voting rights and the rights for education. The outcome of their efforts is neither easy nor immediate but thanks to intensifying trends of progressive movement in cultural and social areas, they gradually succeed in achieving their goals.
