Neo-Marxism and psychoanalysis as a source and inspiration of Frankfurt School
ŠACHLOVÁ, Tereza
In my thesis I will pursue the ideological foundations of the Frankfurt School, a significant social philosophical group of the 20th century. Marxist and psychoanalytic basis will be reflected in conjunction with a critical theory of society and a phenomenon of culture industry. The purpose of this work is to present influences which formed a theoretical work of the Frankfurt School, its research in a modern society and a contribution to the so-called commodification of culture and art related to the expansion of mass culture.
Surrealism and Commercialism
ŠACHLOVÁ, Tereza
This work is devoted to illustrating the issues associated with the relation between art and commercialism from the perspective of major surrealist leaders. A starting point will be the views of the commercialization of art within official texts of surrealism, particularly in the manifestos of André Breton. The shifts from dadaism will be taken into consideration as well as the Marxist context of the surrealistic criticism regarding "the art fair". This work will also focus on how the regards to market potential of particular kinds of art or literary genres affect their appreciation by surrealists (with Breton?s ambiguous relation to painting or novel serving as an example). Attention will be paid to the relation of surrealism and popular culture, or rather to the pervasion of surrealism into popular culture. Finally, in this context the work will follow the transformations found in the work of Salvador Dalí and will also try to explain the concept of "surrealistic kitsch".
