Elias Lönnrot's role on the creation of the Kalevala

This thesis deals with the process of creation of the Kalevala and tries to answer the question about the role of its compiler, Elias Lönnrot. Step by step, it treats his role as a collector, historian, scribe, singer, compiler, publisher and patriot. The main goal here is - through the figure of the author of the Kalevala - to outline the complicated evolution that this work - labelled as the Finnish national epic - has gone through.
