What is Dignity? Nurses' view of human dignity in nursing practice
ČAMROVÁ, Julie
The thesis deals with the problematic of human dignity in nursing practice and view of nurses on it. It consists of theoretical and empirical part. The objective of the thesis was to map the ideas of nurses about the term human dignity and its application in everyday practice. Further it wants to clarify the possibilities of education for nurses in the ethical field. And then to observe the approach of nurses to the elderly in nursing practice. For these objectives six research question was then defined: What are the ideas of Czech nurses about the term human dignity? What are the ideas of German nurses about the term human dignity? What possibility do Czech nurses in medical facility have to take part in education in ethical field? What possibility do German nurses in medical facility have to take part in education in ethical field? How is the approach of Czech nurses to elderly in medical facilities? How is the approach of German nurses to elderly in medical facilities? For the thesis qualitative research with technique of semi-structured interview and hidden observation was chosen. The research file is made up of 10 nurses from Czech and 10 nurses from German environment, working with elderly at Long-Term Care Department in the Vysočina Region and Clinic in Geriatric Medicine in Munich. The selection of nurses was intentional. The results shown that nurses from both Czech and German environment have usable ideas about the term human dignity developed in practice, they can tell which is the right approach to elderly, what limits them during their job, which situations they consider undignified and suggest how to fix them. Following education in ethical field during their work in medical facility have nurses in both environments and they take advantage of these opportunities. The approach of nurses from both environments to elderly in nursing practice is on a good level. I think that this problematic is truly relevant, and nurses should be sufficiently informed in these fields so their care can be optimal in all respects. The thesis can serve as learning materials for students and nurses working with elderly. It also offers space for greater elaboration of the problematic of human dignity and view of the nurses on it in nursing practice.
Dignified end of life from the Senior Perspective
ČAMROVÁ, Julie
The bachelor thesis deals with an issue of a dignified end of life from seniors´ point of view. It contains a theoretic and an empiric part. The aim of the thesis is to find out the reasons why seniors leave for senior homes in Pelhřimov district. It also attempts to discover seniors´ views of human dignity and to map out their most important needs of their lives. The last aim of the thesis is to reveal their images of dying and death. There were 4 research problems: What is the motivation that leads Czech seniors to senior homes? What kind of personal needs Czech seniors identify? What is a view of human dignity of Czech seniors in senior homes? What kind of visions of dying and death Czech seniors have in senior homes? For gaining the information, a qualitative research method was selected with a technique of a half-structured interview. The surveyed sample was created by 18 seniors from senior houses in Pelhřimov district in Vysočina region. The seniors´ selection was intentional. The results obtained from the research revealed that the reasons that cause seniors´ departure to senior homes are identical. The seniors have an awareness of human dignity but they are not able to define this concept. Most of the seniors agreed with which needs were their priorities. The results also revealed that the seniors expressed some worries and wishes concerning the end of life and death. I believe that there should be a social awareness about what the seniors expect in the final phase of their lives and that the society should be able to meet their expectations. The thesis might be used as a study material for students. It also provides some space for further research of human dignity of seniors in their final phase of their lives.
