Contact analysis of acetabular cup and pelvic bone
Vyčichl, Jan ; Jiroušek, Ondřej
A finite element study of factors influencing the contact stress in the pelvic bone after implantation of different designs of acetabular components is presented in the paper. The development of the geometry of the pelvic and the acetabular components is shortly described. The model is loaded according to a normal walk and the interaction of the components with subchondral bone is studied. The different designs of the cups are compared using the results of the contact analysis.
Interaction of pelvic bone and acetabular component
Vyčichl, Jan ; Jiroušek, Ondřej ; Jíra, J.
The article deals with development and validation of complex FE model of pelvic bone and acetabular component. The model of pelvic bone is constructed on basis of CT data of high resolution. Different designs of acetabular components are then incorporated in the FE model using Boolean operations. Comparative study of different acetabular components (spherical, conical and spherical cemented) is presented. Contact stresses in the underlying pelvic bone are compared for each of the cup designs.
Design and performance monitoring of a HPC cluster
Jiroušek, Ondřej
For high performance computing (HPC), clusters of workstations are becoming very popular platforms, but performance of these systems is harder to predict than on the traditional massively parallel machines. The process by which a low-cost, high performance Beowulf-style Linux cluster was built is discussed in the paper. The first tests of several parallel tasks and the estimation of the performance of the cluster is shortly described.
Development of testing equipment for measuring mechanical properties of cancellous bone
Jiroušek, Ondřej ; Jírová, Jitka ; Vavřík, Daniel
Development of experimental procedures used for evaluation of mechanical properties of cancellous bone using small samples of cylindrical shape. Both the compressive and tensile specimens are tested while for the strain measurement an optical method utilizing CCD camera of high resolution is used. The procedure is used to assess the relationship between the apparent density of the cancellous bone in Hounsfield units obtained from computer tomography scans and viscoelastic material properties used in finite element modeling of whole bones.
Finite element model of human skull for investigation of extreme stress state
Jíra, Josef ; Jiroušek, Ondřej ; Jírová, Jitka
The procedures used in the modelling of the skull from the series of computer tomography.
Stress analysis of human pelvic bone after THR cup implantation
Jiroušek, Ondřej ; Jíra, J. ; Jírová, Jitka ; Kult, Jaroslav
Study of the possible mechanical reasons for the acetabularcup migration which is one of the main causes for total hipreplacement (THR) instability and leads to an early re-operation.
Using Ansys FEM System for Solution of Nonlinear Problemsin Biomechanics
Jiroušek, Ondřej ; Jíra, J. ; Jírová, Jitka ; Kult, J.
The contribution reports on problems solved by a Laboratoryof Biomechanics team using numerical FEM system Ansys. The first problem is a complex analysis of Swansons, sprosthesis of interphalangeal joint and its interactionwith phalangeal and metacarpal bone.
Construction of Mathematical Models for the Finite Element Method on Basis of Data Obtained from Computer Tomography
Jiroušek, Ondřej ; Jírová, Jitka
An algorithm for the construction of mathematical models for the finite element method using the computer tomography scans is shortly described in this paper. The stress analysis of a new type of implant used in finger reconstruction surgery was carried out with the help of a model constructed using this algorithm.
