The introduction to the Bachelor Thesis gives a view of social situation and musical life in Paris in the 20th century. The first chapter describes elegance of impressionistic music and examines the writings by Debussy and by other worthy composers of this period. The second chapter deals with the creation and significance of the Paris Six (Les Six) and besides that examines in detail the Sonata for Flute by Fr. Poulenc. The third chapter gives a view of the most significant concerts of the French literature in the 20th century, like the I. Ibert?s and A. Jolivet?s concerts. Furthermore there are the Ibert?s Concert for Flute and Orchestra and its formal analysis included in this chapter. The composers of the best-known sonatas and sole compositions for flute belong to this musical period. Their work influenced the flute play worldwide. The last part of the third chapter examines creation of the younger generation of composers. Their work diverts from deliciousness and softness of the French aesthetics and employs new expression methods and techniques of flute play.
