ROK army participation in Vietnam War
Baboráková, Michaela ; Löwensteinová, Miriam (advisor) ; Glomb, Vladimír (referee)
This thesis addresses the participation of the Republic of Korea Army in the Vietnam War. It is a not very well known fact that the Korean Army was the second largest force allied to the United States in South Vietnam. Korean participation still carries a certain amount of controversy, especially in regards to Vietnamese/Korean relations. The Republic of Korea deployed to the Republic of Vietnam two infantry divisions and one Marine Corps brigade. The Korean Army worked closely with US Army elements and the Army of the Republic of Vietnam in a range of combat actions. This was the first overseas deployment since the Korean defense forces known as ROKA were established. Korean soldiers were trained by American army instructors and the Americans were curious they would perform in the combat arena. Chapter One is a brief history of Vietnam War. Due to special importance of allied forces presence in Vietnam for the theme I describe the Vietnam War history only until 1973. Chapter Two introduces the Korean Army participation through eyes of US Army authorities. The text is mostly based on Larsen and Collins' "Allied Participation In Vietnam". This chapter describes a way that led to official agreements about the Korean participation and a Korean Forces functioning in the South Vietnam combat arena. There are a...
The eminent Korean women writers in the second half of the 20th century
Smutná, Ivana ; Löwensteinová, Miriam (advisor) ; Ferklová, Blanka (referee)
Tato bakalářská práce pod názvem: "Významné korejské spisovatelky druhé poloviny 20. století" se zabývá korejskou ženskou prózou 20. století, a to od jejích prvních výrazných představitelek, až po nejvýraznější představitelky dnešní doby. Nemůžeme použít termín "všeobecně známé", a to z důvodů dodnes silně zakotveného korejského patriarchálního systému, díky kterému není například látka týkající se žen-spisovatelek zahrnuta do školních osnov.

Kim Il-song - personal cult and Juche ideology
Vichterajová, Tereza ; Horák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Löwensteinová, Miriam (referee)
This thesis deals with the personality cult of Kim Il-sng and speeches of this cult in the DPRK. Some political and social customs in the territory of North Korea during the reign of Kim Il-sng led to the fact that his personality cult spread throughout the country and especially that for decades kept in the DPRK. Personality cult of Kim Il-sng began to form after his return to Korea after the Japanese occupation, when he was appointed by USSR to the position of the leader of North Korea. Over time, this cult of personality began to spread to other members of Kim's dynasty, mostly to his son Kim Jong-il. The main reason for the expansion of the cult of personality to other family members was to justify the transfer of power from father to son. In my work I also tried to characterize the North Korean regime, which developed a sophisticated strategy for maintaining power. The most important instruments of the North Korean regime is already referred to the cult of personality. Equally important is the social structure dependent on the degree of loyalty to the leader, social control, and pervasive propaganda. The larger part of my thesis is devoted to Kim Il-sng's Juche ideology, which had an important role in strengthening and longterm holding of his power, and penetration of Juche in all fields of life,...

Law and Order of the Kingdom of Chosŏn during the 18th Century.
Kubík, Lukáš ; Glomb, Vladimír (advisor) ; Löwensteinová, Miriam (referee)
(in English): Since its foundation, the kingdom of Chosŏn has been culturally and politically connected with the Ming China from which Chosŏn adopted written codes, penal system and administrative structure. At the same time, the legal system of the two states was not identical for various reasons. This differentiation has been increasing over the course of several centuries. The 18th century saw the greatest rise in terms of criminal legislation, and some of today's scholars view this period as the advent of humanism and enlightenment in Korea. This diploma thesis deals with the historical development of criminal law and written codes during the Chosŏn period (14th - 18th century), and with the issue of the Korean state penal system as it was at the end of the 18th century.
Phenomenon of "Comfort Women" in Korea. Facts, emergence and political aspects
