Evaluation of the situation in some areas of public life and expected development of these areas in the year 2009

In December 2008, January 2009 and February 2009 survey CVVM posed a few questions on a basic satisfaction with the chosen areas of public life. People were most satisfied with supply of goods and services (68 % "satisfied") and culture (51 %). Dissatisfaction was related mainly to corruption (75 % "dissatisfied") followed by economic crime (69 %), political situation (64 %) and social benefits (62 %).
The economic situation of households

In January 2009 CVVM investigated, how Czech citizens evaluate material living conditions of their households and economic situation in the Czech republic, as well. Comapred to previous years the expectations towards the future economic situation are skeptical. 81 % of informants (the highest result ever - 2nd highest was 50 % in january 2004) thought that the economic situation of the Czech republic would get worse in the next year and 49 % were afraid about the future economic situation of their households.
The Gaza Conflict

In January 2009 survey CVVM investigated on the conflict in the Gaza strip. 40 % of respondents considered the responsibility for the conflict to be equal for both sides. Palestinians were marked as a main offender by 17 % and Israel by 10 % of informants. Israeli military operations in Gaza were supported by 18 % of informants, 46 % were against and 36 % didn't know.
Security Risks for the Czech Republic in the Public Opinion View

In december 2008 CVVM investigated on security issues. As a most serious threat for peace and security in the Czech Republic is considered to be an international organized crime (61 % of informants consider it as a „serious thread“) followed by terrorism (53 %). Currently the calamities (33 %) or epidemics (31 %) are seen as a real threat for the Czech Republic by Czech citizens more than the eventual war conflict (16 %). As a most dangerous countries for peace and security in the Czech Republic were mentioned Russian federation (17 %), Iraq (16 %), Afghanistan (14 %), Iran (12 %), USA (8 %) and China (8 %).
The expectations of Czech citizens towards the future

In december survey CVVM focused on people's fears. Two thirds of informants admitted that they were afraid of something. The most frequent were a fear of unemployment (32 %), a disease (23 %) and fall of living standard (17 %). Another questions concerned on the future of personal life of informants, the future of the czech society and the future of the humankind at all. The majority was optimistic about their own future (65 %) but only 44 % of informants were optimistic about the czech society and even less of them were optimistic about the future of the humankind (37 %)
The elections to the regional councils

In november 2008 CVVM investigated how people voted in elections to the regional councils. This year more people came to vote because of their dissatisfaction compared to the elections to the Chamber of deputies in 2006 (10 % of informants in 2006 compared to 20 % in 2008). Two thirds of disatisfied voters voted for Czech Social Democratic Party and contributed to its victory in the elections.
Popularity of political ideologies

In october 2008 CVVM investigated what are the most popular political ideologies among poeple in Czech republic. Most of informants have choosen social democracy (27 %), followed by liberal (17 %) and conservative (11 %) ideology. Another were ecological approach to politics (10 %), christian democracy (9 %), socialistic (6 %) and communistic (5 %) ideology.
Trust to political parties

In september CVVM investigated how people trust to political parties. The most trustful party is currently Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD, 47 % "trust"). There is a significant gap between CSSD and other parties. The order is following: Green Party (SZ, 30 %), Civil Democratic Party (ODS 28 %) and Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSCM 28 %), Christian and Democratic Union–Czechoslovak People’s Party (KDU-CSL 23 %).
Public opinion on the regional policy

In September 2008 CVVM posed a few questions about satisfaction with regional government. Contemporary structure of regions in Czech republic was established in year 2000. Eight years later there were still many poeple without any opinoin on this (38 % of informants "dont know"). More than one third (40 %) considered this change as a positive and 22 % of informants have an opposite opinion.
Czechs and the environmental protection

In May 2007 the Centre for Public Opinion Research investigated how are Czechs and their households active in protection of environment. 81% of informants said that they are used to sort waste („always + often“). Approximately half of informants (48 %) makes an effort to save water and energy. On the other hand almost nobody tries to reduce car driving for ecological reasons (11 %).
