Analysis of utilization of waste generated in the production of cement-bonded particleboards
Melo, Michal ; Vacula, Miroslav (referee) ; Bydžovský, Jiří (advisor)
The content of this diploma thesis is to explore the possibility of utilization of wastes generated in the production of cement-bonded particleboards in terms of their application as secondary raw materials back into the production. At first an attention was focused on a fine-grained waste containing wood particles with cement matrix produced during the final adjustment of boards. Further, fly ash generated from the combustion of wood chips in the biomass boiler is assessed. In the theoretical part the different types of waste generated in the production of cement-bonded particleboards are characterized, including their methods of creation, production, use or disposal of the current and other proposals for utilization in the future. The research papers dealing with applications of various wastes in the production of cement composites with organic fibers were also studied. In the experimental part of the thesis the characteristics of each type of waste generated in the production of cement-bonded particleboards are evaluated using laboratory analyses and their pretreatment methods for another use are designed. Subsequently performed the laboratory verification capabilities of secondary raw materials from wastes in cement-bonded particleboards identifying and evaluating basic physico–mechanical characteristics of boards with modified composition.
Changes in the properties of cement-bonded particleboards due to fluctuations in atmospheric humidity
Vasas, Silvestr ; Vacula, Miroslav (referee) ; Bydžovský, Jiří (advisor)
The work is focused on changing dimensional, volume, weight and mechanical properties of cement bonded particleboards due to fluctuations in the humidity of the surrounding environment. Part of the work is a search of scientific literature focused on the possible modification of organic materials used as fillers in cement bonded matrices, as well as cement bonded composites. Since wood is used as a filler, which is very susceptible to moisture, it is important to treat it – thermally, chemically. In the practical part, various recipes of cement bonded particleboards were inspired by previous research are designed and tested. The laboratory assessment of changes in the properties of cement bonded particleboards due to relative humidity demonstrated compliance with the theoretical foundations, as a result of the thesis, suitable recipes for the production of cement bonded particleboards including their verification were defined.
Influence of humidity changes to properties of building materials with organic filler
Vasas, Silvestr ; Vacula, Miroslav (referee) ; Bydžovský, Jiří (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of dimensional changes of building materials containing organic filler, in connection with changes in the humidity of the environment in which the material is located. Searches of knowledge, especially from the scientific literature showed a significant effect of moisture on volume and weight changes of both wood itself and wood of cement composites. In this respect, the treatment of wood (thermal, chemical, etc.) ort he surface treatment of the final wood of the cement composite (coating systém, impregnation, etc.) is essential to reduce the rate of change due to ambient humidity. Experimental laboratory assessment of dimensional and mass changes proved compliance with theoretical knowledge and extended them by specifying the effect on individual dimensions. The different behavior of cement-bonded particleboards in terms of their hygroskopicity was demonstrated on the changes of the boards surface threatment with the coating system and on the boards without surface threatment.
Cement-bonded particleboards with utilization of alternative raw materials
Urbánek, Libor ; Vacula, Miroslav (referee) ; Bydžovský, Jiří (advisor)
The diploma thesis is focused on effective utilization of currently produced alternative raw materials in the production of cement-bonded boards. The emphasis is primarily on the scraps and dust arising from the processing of cement-bonded slabs, as well as on slag and limestone. The theoretical part contains a survey of current knowledge about the given issue. In the experimental part, the alternative raw materials were analyzed in detail and their influence (as modifier components of the matrix and the filler) on the properties of cement-bonded slabs was examined. Research and development took place using physico-mechanical, thermal and microstructural methods.

Possibilities of utilizing waste from the production of cement-bonded particleboards in building materials
Bartoň, Andrej ; Vacula, Miroslav (referee) ; Bydžovský, Jiří (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with possible applications of waste created during cement-bonded particleboard in building materials production. The theoretical part of the thesis analyzes the individual components and processes in the production of cement-bonded particleboard, production processes during which the waste is produced, and the form and quantity the waste can be found in. The theoretical part focuses on the treatment of the various waste forms and their further use in modified or untreated form. In the practical part, the influence of the binder parts substitution on the cement matrix properties is verified. Fine loose waste from the cement-bonded particleboard was used for the sample production.
Optimisation of cement-bonded particleboard matrix composition by using alternative raw material sources
Roháček, Lukáš ; Vacula, Miroslav (referee) ; Bydžovský, Jiří (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with possibility of utilization raw materials from alternative sources for production of cement-bonded particleboards. In theoretical part the possibilities of modifying composition of cement-bonded slabs with emphasis on their matrix are discussed in detail. On basis of the findings and their evaluation, waste from the formatting of cement-bonded particleboards, micronized limestone, heat sink and high temperature fly ash were selected to the composition modification. The mentioned raw materials were analyzed and subsequently tested as substitutes for the matrix of cement-bonded particleboards in the experimental part. The properties of the proposed materials were tested even in the longer term, including the microstructure.
Long-term tests for examination of surface treatments in various adverse environments simulating real effects
Hudečková, Petra ; Vacula, Miroslav (referee) ; Bydžovský, Jiří (advisor)
Cement bonded particleboards contain organic base and as they are set outside, extreme weather condition, such as frost, chemical defrosting substances or sulphates, cause their degradation. The presence of the organic base in the matrix of the material could be the reason why there is higher probability of degrading when compared with materials containing an inorganic base. It could be partially eliminated by an appropriate surface modification of the slab, which main goal is to weaken the impact of an aggressive environment and to extend the lifespan of the board. On the other hand, the surface modifications based on a polymer base are prone to degrade because of other unfavourable conditions such as UV radiation when compared with the cement bonded particleboard. The classification of the surface modifications and the way of their degradation caused by the aggressive environment in real applications are presented in the theoretical part of the thesis. In the experimental part, appropriate methodical ways of testing the resistance of cement bonded particleboard’s coating system were chosen. Then, the testing and comparing of the physical, mechanical and aesthetic properties of different types of coatings were done. Moreover, a spectrophotometric analysis of the colour shade changes for the different aggressive environment were carried out. Furthermore, microstructures of chosen surface modifications were assessed by using an optical and an electron microscope.
