Birth rate change during the First World War in Czech lands
Tvrdíková, Michaela ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Fialová, Ludmila (referee)
The aim is to study changes in fertility in the years 1914-1918, the distribution of live births by age of mother and marriage duration, the seasonality of live births and the impact of these changes on subsequent developments. Further tries to estimate the war effects depicted on age structure through the censuses of 1921, 1930, 1950, 1980 and 2001, to evaluate losses due to missing births during the First World War and the number of unborn in the second generation, to describe the impact of these changes on the probability of death. The main benefit would be to estimate the unborn in the second generation, which had been originally estimated in 1960 by Ivan Kochanovskov and recalculated in this work to the fertile period of generations of women from 1915 to 1920, then the time period 1930-1969.
Second child from international perspective
Kudrnová, Pavlína ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Kocourková, Jiřina (referee)
Second child from international perspective Abstract The main aim of this thesis is a comparative analysis of the second child in Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia. The main tool of this analysis are period fertility tables for the years 1991-2007. Theories why people want children and factors influencing the decision of starting a family and its size are mentioned in the first part. Furthermore, the text focuses on the comparison of family conditions and environment in each country which turned out to be the most friendly in Sweden and the Netherlands. The main part, the analysis of the second child, shows more significant changes in the Czech Republic and Slovakia than in other countries during the period - both in shifting childbearing to higher age of women and reducing the levels of period and cohort fertility or in the probability of having a second child. The results point out the incipient signs of loss of the prominent position of the second child and two-child family, especially in the Central European counties. Keywords: the second child, fertility, period fertility tables, the probability of having a second child, a family

Mortality patterns and trends in postcommunist countries compared with low mortality populations
Mukhtarova, Zhanyl ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Mortality patterns and trends in post-communist countries compared with low mortality populations Zhanyl Mukhtarova Abstract This research primarily addresses mortality patterns and trends in the post-communist countries of Central Asia, Central Europe and the Baltic region together with low mortality populations such as those of France, Spain and the United States of America. The aim of this research is to analyze mortality patterns and trends in selected post-communist countries and contrast them with low mortality populations between the period of 1990 and 2006. In this study, the main age-specific mortality intensities and the excess male mortality among the selected countries were analyzed. Moreover, the historical overview of mortality development in the selected countries and population longevity was discussed. Concurrently, the influence of socioeconomic conditions and healthy lifestyles and their implications and impact on declining mortality rates were revealed. The research clearly identified several important issues encasing the field of mortality, notably that more work and financial support is necessary to improve the health status of countries within Central Asia.
Methods of analysis of seasonality in demography
Myšáková, Gabriela ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (referee)
Methods of analysis of seasonality in demografy Gabriela Myšáková Abstract The thesis presents statistical methods suited for analysis of seasonality in time-series. Three statistical methods have been thoroughly described, namely the time-series decomposition, the X12−ARIMA method and the cointegration of time-series. Further methods applicable for similar analysis have been briefly discussed as well. Three main methods have been subsequently applied to monthly demographic data for the Czech Republic and chosen European countries by natality, nuptiality and mortality. Seasonality has been discovered in all three demographic events and by using the time-series decomposition and the X12−ARIMA method for time-series lay out to separate units, and those progressions have been track by graphic and verbal interpretation. Cluster analysis has been applied to European countries nuptiality and mortality time-series in order to reveal similarities and dissimilarities among particular countries. All the methods were used onto data set by using appropriate procedures in statistical software SAS.
Fertility patterns and trends in post-socialist countries contrasted with Sweden and the United States of America
Shermakhanbetuly, Dinmukhamed ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Kocourková, Jiřina (referee)
The thesis addresses fertility patterns and trends in post-socialist countries of the Czech Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Latvia and western countries of Sweden and the United States of America during 1999 - 2007 period. Differentials in shifts in fertility behavior including changes in family formation, fertility timing and extramarital childbearing coming from the baby-boom era in western countries and the collapse of state socialist regime in post-socialist countries are described in the thesis. The tendency in changing attitudes to childbearing and the role of the children in the family are obviously seen. After examining the age profile in fertility development for selected countries the role of women according to age group in overall fertility is explained. Share of live births borne outside of marriage in western countries has increased over the past decades. While the vast changes in the proportion of extramarital live births in post-socialist countries observed since entering to the market economy of state management. This is explained by several reasons including less favorable socio-economic conditions during the transition period and changes in social norms in the society. Relationship between the share of extramarital live births and...
Demographic differentiation of states of the USA
Hájková, Sylva ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Kocourková, Jiřina (referee)
This thesis deals with differences between individual states of the United States from the demographic point of view, and searches for causes of these differences. United States are composed of several disparate areas, which are different from each other in their location, size, number and composition of the population, and historical evolution. All this affects the demographic characteristics of those territorial units. Probably the main cause of differentiation of individual states is racial composition, since the intensity of demographic events is specific to each race or ethnicity. The states differ in levels of fertility, mortality, marriage or education. To confirm these assumptions, the statistical method canonical correlation was used. Using cluster analysis has revealed that there are groups of states that have similar demographic profile. Most notably, it shows the influence of ethnic and racial composition in the south of the United States, where the highest proportion of populations is composed by black race and hispanic origin. The differentiation of levels of infant mortality and life expectancy are mainly influenced. Key words: United States of America, race, ethnicity, black population, hispanic population, total fertility rate, life expectancy, canonical correlation, cluster analysis
Analysis of family formation and dissolution processes using multistate demography modelling
Dušek, Zdeněk ; Rychtaříková, Jitka (advisor) ; Kocourková, Jiřina (referee)
The main aim of this thesis is to analyse the development of the processes of family formation and dissolution in the Czech Republic between 1993 and 2008 using multistate demography. By this method, we analyze probability of transition between individual marriage states and events, which characterise these transitions. The first part of the analysis deals with the population as a whole, while the second part analyses only the part of population in fertile ages. LIPRO program was used to create a model of marital status based on data for the Czech Republic as well as for producing a forecast of population divided by marital status for the years of 2019?2023. Other parts of this thesis support the main aim of the thesis. The level of marriage and divorce rate were analysed between 1993 and 2008 as well as potential factors that could influence the level of above mentioned processes. Rising number of cohabitations could be one of those factors and therefore a special attention is paid to the development of this type of coexistence. Socioeconomic development and family and social policy are mentioned as well, because they could also have significant impact on the processes of formation and dissolution of families. The above mentioned factors and their relationship to the marriage rate are analysed using the...
