Segner wheel
Jahn, Jan ; Hudec, Martin (referee) ; Fic, Miloslav (advisor)
This bachelor thesis focuses on description of water turbine called the Segner wheel, which is considered as a precursor of modern water turbines. Segner’s contribution is to demonstrate an opportunity of dynamic force exerted by fluid jet. There is some historical information about his life and additional adaptations of the original invention. Wheel function analysis is based on laws of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics. The Segner wheel model is a part of this thesis. Last chapter discuses applications of the Segner wheel up to the present day.
Control systems of Kaplan Turbine
Pavelka, František ; Kárník, Jan (referee) ; Fic, Miloslav (advisor)
The main objective of this bachelor´s thesis is to list briefly the most common types of water turbines and explain the construction and especially regulation of Kaplan water turbine. Second task is to describe individually both regulatory mechanisms and movements in the machine during the regulation by distributor and by blades of runner wheel. The next intention is to describe the influence of regulation on the efficiency curve and further briefly explain and compare the modern control systems of turbine regulation with the old way using the centrifugal regulator.
Manufacturing inaccuracies influence on an appearence of the additional moment on a sailboat rudder
Kazda, Adam ; Fic, Miloslav (referee) ; Štigler, Jaroslav (advisor)
This Master’s thesis is dedicated to a generation of an additional torque, which can occur due to the inaccuracy of the manufacturing. This issue is inspired by a real case from 2013. In this work CFD modeling is used to investigate three different sources of the additional torque: misalignment of the rudder, deviation of the propeller shaft and asymmetry of the rudder. A simplified 2D simulation is done for all three cases. This simulation is more suitable for a jet powered boat. Therefore the asymmetry of the rudder is investigated also in a 3D case, where the rotational component of the flow behind the propeller is included.
Modal analysis of the swirl turbine runner
Valo, Lukáš ; Fic, Miloslav (referee) ; Čupr, Pavel (advisor)
The bachelor’s thesis deals with modal analysis of the swirl turbine runner. The main aim was to determine natural frequencies and mode shapes of the turbine runner. Both detailed and simplified models of geometry of the turbine runner were analysed for two types of boundary conditions. The ANSYS program was used to carry out numerical simulations. Experimental measurement was realised to verify and to compare results of calculations.
Technology of Trenchless Rehabilitation of Pipelines
Pleva, Ondřej ; Fic, Miloslav (referee) ; Kárník, Jan (advisor)
Contend of bachelor thesis is aimed on trenchless methods of rehabilitation underground pipe networks. It includes several repairs, renovations and replacements without need of open cut. At its beginning, thesis is focused on classification of different types of pipe defects, their localization and cleaning methods. Mentioned activities are in most cases essential part of pipe rehabilitation. Main part of thesis is dedicated to detail description of individual rehabilitation methods. At the end the aim of the thesis moves toward assessment and cooperation of trenchless methods in relation one to another and also in relation to open cut.
Fractal geometry application for orifice plate design
Hochman, Ondřej ; Fic, Miloslav (referee) ; Rudolf, Pavel (advisor)
Bachelor thesis consists of three parts. The first part is focused on research study of cav-itation and fractal geometry. It is concerned with the physical principle of cavitation, its generation, dynamics and implosion of cavitation bubbles. It also turns attention to useful application. Brief explanation of fractal geometry follows, including some famous examples. Two fractal shaped orifices were designed in the second experimental part, having the same cross-section as orifice with ordinary circle hole. These orifices were compared to each other from perspective of hydraulic losses.

Transition of cavitating flow to supercavitation
Chovanec, Radomír ; Fic, Miloslav (referee) ; Rudolf, Pavel (advisor)
Bachelor thesis consists of two parts. The first part is dedicated to research. It deals with clarifying the basic concepts of cavitation and current knowledge in the field of supercavitation. The second, experimental part is devoted to flow in Venturi nozzle in the transition from developed cavitation to supercavitation. The aim was to examine the hysteresis that occurs with a change of transition direction. To clarify the phenomenon were compared static and dynamic characteristics acquired from the measurement and visualization on the hydraulic circuit with cavitation jet.

Design of a micro waterpower turbines for low head and low dicharge
Macek, Libor ; Fic, Miloslav (referee) ; Štigler, Jaroslav (advisor)
This diploma thesis discusses the issue of finding type of water turbine for very low heads and low discharges, which could be operated as mobile micro hydropower plant in island mode. Thesis deals with summary of appropriate choices of water turbine for needs of micro hydropower plant. Essential part of diploma thesis deals with design of optimized waterwheel. Waterwheel was chosen because commercial high-speed turbines have low efficiency for low heads. Waterwheel was manufactured and measured in laboratories of Fluid engineering. Measurement output was discharge and efficiency characteristic of turbine. The price calculation was made after manufacture.
