Microreactor Platforms for HomogeneousHydrogenations and Photocatalytic Reactions
Pavlorková, Jana ; Křišťál, Jiří ; Drhová, Magdalena ; Hejda, S. ; Klusoň, Petr
Research was focused on a model reaction - photochemical degradation of 4-chlorophenol, which by the way, is widely used as an herbicide, fungicide or insecticide and it is listed among top priority pollutants. The degradation occured via photochemical proces by the irradiation in a combination with a photosensitizer. UV/VIS light was generated by i high pressure mercury lamp. In this reaction phthalocyanine acts as the photcatalyst generating singlet oxygen.

Hydrodynamic Study of the Downward Annular Gas-Liquid Flow under the Pilot Plant Operating Conditions 2013-2014.
Stavárek, Petr ; Křišťál, Jiří
Hydrodynamics of annular liquid flow in a vertical tube with cocurrent gas flow has been studied. Effect of gas - liquid flow rate and liquid viscosity on two-phase flow hydrodynamics was investigated for glycerol – air system. The evaluated parameters were pressure drop and hydrodynamic regime at different gas/liquid ratios.

WP5 Status Report Months 31 to 50
Křišťál, Jiří ; Stavárek, Petr ; Jiřičný, Vladimír
Within WP5 in this reporting period focused on the development of a new intensified reactor concept for sulph(on)ation reaction. Based on the previous hydrodynamic experiments and mathematical models we designed a new reactor – microSulphonator. We also constructed and manufactured several prototypes that were later tested with model fluids. Experimental data were used for the validation of the models defined previously. Results of this period served as a basis for the final microSulphonators to be tested in the PGB pilot plant during the demonstration phase of the F3 project.

Oxidation of Volatile Organic Compounds in a Multifunctional High Temperature and High-Pressure Cassette Microreactor
Vajglová, Zuzana ; Stavárek, Petr ; Křišťál, Jiří ; Jirátová, Květa ; Ludvíková, Jana ; Jiřičný, Vladimír
Analysis of the total oxidation of ethanol including reaction intermediates data obtained in the examined reactors on the temperature showed that differentmaterial applied in the construction of reactors and their arrangement give slightly different results of catalyst testing, the ones obtained from microreactor being more precise. More precise control of reaction temperature due to higher heat transfer capabilities and limited backmixing of reaction mixture in a packed bed microreactor is advantageous and leads to the more accurate results of oxidation catalysts testing. However, it is necessary to ensure in order the material used for the reactor construction did not affect the catalytic reaction. The results accomplished confirm that microreactors are not only suitable for performing of catalytic reactions in a laboratory scale but also promising way for creation of new, safer and cleaner production processes.

Performance of Continuous Micro Photo Reactor – Comparison with Batch Process
Drhová, Magdalena ; Hejda, S. ; Křišťál, Jiří ; Klusoň, Petr
Utilization of the flow chemistry as well as microreactors belongs to the latest trends in chemical engineering. Continuous microreactors of various kinds can be found in the literature, for example the micromixers, micro packed beds, or micro photo reactors. In order to evaluate the benefits of microtechnology application for the given process, the performance of a particular microreactor needs to be compared with the conventional setup. This contribution presents the performance of a continuous micro photo reactor in comparison with a batch process. Two model reactions were selected: the catalyzed photooxidation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) and the singlet oxygen chemical quencher 9,10-dimethylanthracene (DMA) in dimethylformamide. The tests were carried out using advanced opto-chemical apparatus with a well-defined light filter corresponding to the absorption bands of the used photo catalysts.
