Mayor as a Black Peter? Case Study of the Moravian-Silesian Region

The bachelor's thesis is a case study that deals with the influence of factors that influence interest in the post of mayor of small municipalities in the Moravian-Silesian Region. This thesis describes Czech local politics, which is very specific due to its large number of small municipalities in the Czech Republic. The local politics of the Czech Republic is extensively researched, thanks to many important authors who have devoted themselves, for example, to local councils, rural municipalities, or the creation of coalitions or parties of representatives. Research usually comes to the conclusion that there is no interest in the post of mayor in small municipalities, yet no work published so far describes the exact reasons that influence this interest. Since this phenomenon of interest has not yet been specifically described, however, the circumstances confirming lack of interest are very specific, this work is based on qualitative research. The aim of the thesis is to find out what affects the mayor's interest in the post of mayor. To fulfill the aim of the work, he uses case studies and conducts seven semi-structured interviews with mayors of small municipalities in the Moravian-Silesian Region.
