Incidence and prevention of pressure ulcers in critically ill Covid positive patients treated in prone position

The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out the incidence of pressure ulcers caused by prone position in patients at Covid Metabolic Unit (Covid MJ) in Fakultní nemocnice Královské Vinohrady (FNKV) from November 2020 to May 2021. Furthermore, second aim of this diploma thesis was to find out the nursing prevention of pressure ulcers caused by prone positioning in these patients. Third aim was to compare level of nursing prevention in patients in the prone position with the incidence of pressure ulcers in individual parts of the research period. A quantitative study was conducted from January to March 2022 in which we retrospectively searched for patients who were placed in the prone position at Covid MJ between November 2020 and May 2021 and found out how many of them had pressure ulcers. At the same time, questionnaires were distributed to the nurses who worked in this ward, with the intention of mapping what nursing interventions the nurses carried out in order to prevent pressure ulcers caused by the prone position.
