Child abuse and neglect as a risk factor for the development of addiction

Child abuse & neglect we consider as a risk factor of addiction development. The use of addictive substances belongs to a strategy to deal with difficult life situations and many studies confirm that those people who was abused in childhood show more frequent use of drugs. The aim of Bachelor thesis is to outline the relationship between child abuse & neglect and development of addiction and describe less known forms of child abuse & neglect. The other goal includes finding out subjectively perceived relationship between child abuse & neglect and developmental addiction with a certain factor abuse pattern in the context of childhood harm. The following research questions were formulated in connection with the research. What forms of child abuse & neglect did clients encounter? What is the role of substance abuse in relation to child abuse & neglect? The research was conducted through a case study of three clients of the therapeutic community who experienced various forms of child abuse & neglect. The result of the work is to determine that all of the clients perceive the connection. Drug usage has helped them to join their collective peers, forget about unpleasant experiences and increase self-esteem.
