STAHLOVÁ, Zuzana
The aim of this study is to explore whether social workers use theoretical concepts while working with the Roma minority. The research used a qualitative research method. Data collection was performed using of intentional (purposeful) selection. Qualitative data were obtained by interview with using the instructions. The research group was selected from a group of social workers assigned by the target group with which they work. This group consists of six social workers who work primarily with the Roma minority in southern Bohemia. To achieve this objective we established research question: Do the social worker use theoretical concepts while working with the Roma minority? If so, what and how, if not, what they use instead? Data were analyzed using cluster method. This method is used to group certain statements in groups, according to the resolution of certain issues. The results implies that only half of the communication partners uses a theoretical approaches. From the discussions it is clear that only two of them are using them consciously. They most frequently use tasks oriented approach and client-oriented approach. One communication partner even mentioned anti-discriminating approach. Most social workers agreed that they use their own judgment in their work. Self judgment is meant empathy, intuitiveness and more. Furthermore, communication partners mentioned findings, which can be used. It is very important to have mutual trust when working with the Roma minority. Academic teaching Romani would also be good to facilitate communication between the social worker and the target group. It would also be appropriate to concentrate knowledge about social work with the Roma minority into one comprehensive publication. This thesis can serve as a basis for further elaboration of this theme.
