Economic development of Spain under Franco
KOČOVÁ, Ilona
The main aim of this thesis is to present a compact and chronological overview of the economic situation in Spain in times of the civil war, during the reign of Francisco Franco, and after his death. As many years have passed since the civil war, we can look at the role of Francisco Franco in the history of Spain without prejudice, considering the political and economic situation in the whole Europe before and after his reign. The economic development during the reign of Franco is divided into 3 phases, which are generally referred to as: a phase of independence (times of starvation), a phase of orientation towards foreign countries (a phase of stabilization) and a phase of rapid development. Furthermore, this thesis presents a description of the political situation in Spain, which is important in order to understand some of the economic decisions made by Franco. His decisions are mostly approached in negative way, not considering the political situation in Europe at that time.
