School adjustment of children of migrant parents in Marianske Lazne
VANIŠOVÁ, Markéta
The main topic of this bachelor´s thesis is "School assimilation of children of migrant parents". The theoretical section of this thesis firstly explains the basic terms and concepts, such as migration, emigration, immigration and refugees. The thesis then looks into the causes of migration and to the problems of migrant families that may arise during the acquisition of Czech citizenship. The largest part of the thesis focuses on assimilation issues of foreign students at elementary schools. Meaning that we can find the outline of the whole end-to-end process of integration of foreign students, starting with their registration, class assignment, up until their evaluation. The thesis also demonstrates a variety of school activities that tend to help to integrate such children. Moreover, we can also find here factors influencing the integration of foreign students, which are an integral part of each of them. Last but not least the thesis contains the most important chapters dealing with prejudices, different attitudes, racism, but primarily with mutual tolerance and full adaptation to the society. This bachelor´s thesis is intended to introduce readers to everyday issues of foreign children, which they may encounter during their integration into the mainstream society. This section is devoted to a research of eight different foreign students and their four teachers, who are trying to maintain a reciprocal tolerance among themselves. In the research part we can find a very recent topic of refugeeism, which gets more and more attention day by day and may end up having a huge impact on everybody's life. The research shows that some Czech teachers and children might begin to generalize foreigners into negative groups of society through mass media. This is related to the issue of ethnic discrimination, which teachers in Mariánské Lázně quoted doesn't exist in it's schools. Some foreign students however reported otherwise. A much more detailed analysis of such statements and claims is presented in the thesis. This thesis may be useful to students who are studiyng the issues of international migration, or to students of educational disciplines who are interested in broadening their knowledge in this field as a way to fill some information gaps.
