Baierl, Tomáš ; Teplá, Jana (advisor) ; Šoltys, Otakar (referee)
This thesis examines by using content analysis the selection of photos in some Czech newspaper (Mladá fronta DNES, Hospodářské noviny, Blesk, Právo) before the first direct presidential election in 2013. First direct presidential election in the country's history is a topic that has not been treated in a similar method, therefore this work is in its focus. Research questions in the empirical part are focused on photograph size, the frequency of posting the photographs, positioning photographs on the front page, the connection to political orientation and the connection to polls. Content analysis has more than one thousand rows of data. The output is several variables, such as photograph size, page number, connection to candidate's profession, theme of the picture or photo environment. The focus is placed on the high amount of input data, and this ensures a sufficient sample to study, which in effect increases the relevance of the work. Finally, the theoretical basis for the work is based on the concept of agenda-setting and the importance of photographs in the media.
