Burnout in nursing students.
SALHIOVÁ, Soňa
Introduction: This bachelor's thesis focuses on burnout syndrome among students of General Nursing. This field is highly beneficial to society, it is also one of the most time-demanding studies. Goal: The aim of the research was to map the level of burnout syndrome among students studying General Nursing. The second aim was to describe the specific issues of this syndrome among students of General Nursing. Methodology: The research part was conducted using a quantitative method with a standardized SMBM questionnaire supplemented by 26 non-standardized questions. The research took place at the turn of April and May 2024, involving 127 students of General Nursing in the Czech Republic. The questionnaire was distributed via email through the secretariats or study departments faculty of Health Studies and faculty of Health and Social Scientes. It included questions about age, year of study, and previous education to analyze the influence of these factors on the results of the burnout syndrome. Results: 76 students (59.8 %) out of the total 127 scored up to 55 points, indicating that their SMBM levels are considered low. 51 students (40.2 %) scored 56 points or more, indicating that they are already at risk of burnout syndrome. Based on the resulting data, there is no statistically significant difference in the risk factors for burnout syndrome among General Nursing students in different years of study (p = 7.9 %), of different ages (p = 37.5 %), or in the occurrence of burnout syndrome between students from non-medical schools and those with completed secondary nursing education (p = 90.0 %). Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, tables were created that illustrate the evaluation of respondents' answers in detail. This work can serve as an aid for students during their studies in the prevention of burnout syndrome.
Alzheimer's disease from the point of view of geriatric nursing care
JAŠKOVÁ, Kateřina
Alzheimer's disease is a serious neurodegenerative condition that affects the aging population worldwide. This bachelor thesis focuses on Alzheimer's disease and its associated geriatric nursing care. Geriatric nursing care is a crucial aspect of caring for seniors suffering from this disease, as they have specific needs and require an individualized approach. It is essential to consider the specific needs of seniors and to approach them individually to achieve the best health and social outcomes. A comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach, along with the support of family members, is essential for effective care of patients with this serious illness. The aim of this thesis is to explore the specifics of nursing care for clients with Alzheimer's disease in social service facilities. Additionally, the approach of general nurses to informing families of clients with Alzheimer's disease was examined, as well as how these nurses educate the families. The objectives were achieved through qualitative research, which included interviews with general nurses. The research was conducted in homes for the elderly and in special care homes in České Budějovice. The results will be used as teaching material for students of non-medical health disciplines and for general nurses.
The issue of invasive accesses in intensive care
ŠILHÁN, Daniel
In intensive care, invasive procedures represent an essential condition in the care of critically ill patients. In particular, the knowledge and skills in providing and taking care of them are crucial. The main objectives were to map the knowledge of non-physician medical staff in the intensive care environment regarding selected invasive procedures. Further, to identify the differences in adherence to recommended procedures in intensive care across different types of nursing education, and eventually, to determine the effect of the length of work experience on compliance with recommended procedures. The set objectives were achieved by means of a quantitative research survey using online questionnaires distributed among fellow healthcare professionals who had worked in intensive care for longer or shorter periods. The respondents were general nurses, with or without specialization in intensive care, and paramedics. Based on the results of the conducted research, several conclusions can be drawn. It was found that the research sample did not demonstrate adequate knowledge regarding the selected invasive procedures. The median value of the provided questionnaire was 60.6%, which is significantly less than the intended 70%. Furthermore, it has been shown that there were differences across different types of nursing educational attainment. Respondents with a high school diploma achieved the worst results on average (56.1%). People with a master's degree performed best on average (64.7%). Therefore, it can be concluded that adherence to recommended invasive procedures in intensive care depends on the education of the staff. Finally, the length of work experience of healthcare professionals did not prove to be a significant factor influencing adherence to recommended invasive procedures in intensive care.
Active involvement of patients in the prevention of healthcare associated infections.
BLÁHOVÁ, Eliška
The bachelor thesis deals with the active involvement of patients in the prevention of healthcare associated infections. Prevention of healthcare associated infections is crucial for safe healthcare delivery. However, preventive measures are difficult due to many factors. Actively engaging patients in infection prevention leads to a reduced risk of complications of treatment secondary to healthcare-associated infection. Active involvement will also improve the integration of patients into the course of care. Thesis is divided into two parts. The first, theoretical part, deals with healthcare-associated infections, their causative agents, determinants of their occurrence and the different manifestations that healthcare-associated infections may present. It also deals with the issue of active involvement of patients in the prevention of healthcare associated infections. It discusses how information can be conveyed to patients, how patients can be educated and how patients can be encouraged to actively follow preventive measures. The second part deals with the research, which is conducted using a quantitative method with a self-constructed questionnaire technique. The research is conducted in a selected South Bohemian hospital. The research population consists of patients treated in a standard inpatient ward and in a specialist outpatient clinic. The aim of the study is to determine the patients' awareness of healthcare associated infections, selected aspects of prevention and also to determine the level of active involvement of the patient in the prevention of healthcare associated infections. The results will serve as a basis for health care providers for possible optimization of the care provided.
Areas of education in the care of a surgical patient
ČEKALOVÁ, Petra
This thesis deals with patient´s education in the surgical ward of the Hospital Jindřichův Hradec. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part of the thesis we define the concept of education and subsequently areas of education and educational methods. In order to prepare the thesis we used qualitative research methods. As for the data collection technique, we used a semi-structured interview with fifteen patients and fifteen general nurses. The analysis of the interviews was conducted in the form of "paper pencil" method and open coding method. The results were divided into categories and subcategories. For the sake of clarity, the individual categories and subcategories have been arranged in diagrams. The aim of the thesis is: 1 To investigate the extent of patient education prior to elective surgery during an one-day hospital stay. 2 To determine patients' views on the extent of information given during an one-day hospital stay. 3 To determine a nurses' opinion on importance and effectiveness of conducting a patient education on nutrition, exercise and wound care before and after the surgery. 4 To identify the most common methods used by nurses in patient´s education on the surgical ward. To address these objectives, there were identified five research questions: 1 What information was provided to patients as part of their education prior to elective surgery during their one-day hospitalization? 2 What information was provided to patients regarding nutrition, exercise and wound care during their one-day hospitalization? 3 How do patients evaluate the information given by nurses during their one-day hospitalization? 4 What is the opinion of nurses on the effectiveness of patient education before and after surgery? 5 What methods do nurses most often use to educate patients hospitalized in a surgical ward? Results of the research could serve as a basis for a course for surgical nurses, focusing on education of postoperative patients in the areas of nutrition, exercise and wound care. Furthermore, this research could be used to create new educational materials for patients before and after surgery (e.g. leaflets, brochures, etc.).
Accompanying nurse in the new coronavirus pandemic
KUDRFALCOVÁ, Petra
The covid-19 is an acute infectious disease, which affects respiratory system of an individual and is caused by a virus called SARS-CoV2. On March 11, 2020 WHO proclaimed this as pandemic. The first proven case of this virus in Czech republic was filed on the 1.st March 2020 and with it began a fight with the disease called covid- 19. The purpose of this thesis is to get acquainted with the issue of covid-19 and chart nurse accompaniment during pandemic. Thesis also talks about how did this pandemic affected nurses. It points out what accompanying patients menas for nurses, how they evaluate accompanying patients during daily tending activities and in the final phase of life. The objective of this hesis has been achieved and the research questions were answered using the qualitative study, which is carried out using semi-structured in-depth interviews with nurses. The first part of this thesis describes the issue of the illnes covid-19, whether it concerns the disease itself or the lives of the nurses during this period of time. The practical part analyzes the interviews, which took part in the year of 2023 with nurses who were taking care for patients with covid-19. The method used to analyze the obtained data was through open coding. The interviews show, that caring for patients with covid-19 is definetily more challenging and demandingm than for patients who do not suffer from this disease. Furthermore there is an apparent psychological burden, which manifested in the nurses by various symptoms, such as depression, anxiety and fear. We also mapped the differences in nursing care for these patients, the behavior of the family members who were prohibited from visiting and accompanying their family members at the time of dying and death. In conclusion, it is apparent that accompanying patients during the care of patients with covid-19 is completely more demanding and nurses should not be ashamed and be afraid to ask for proffesinal help, that could help them to overcome this time period. The research shows the need for a change in the management and leadership, which should help nurses with training in certain areas of the given disease or in the care of these patients.
Opportunities for improvement of the nursing work environment
VŠETEČKOVÁ, Lucie
Current status: The working environment is one of the key factors influencing the satisfaction of healthcare workers. In order to achieve an ideal working environment, it is crucial to ensure safety in the workplace and to minimize risk factors that could affect the work of nurses. Objectives: Two objectives were set for the development of the research study: To evaluate the working environment from the point of view of shift nurses and to describe the possibilities of improving their working conditions. Methodology: The method of quantitative research was chosen for the empirical part of the work. For quantitative data collection, a questionnaire survey method using a standardized questionnaire "Practice environment scale of the nursing work index" (Lake, 2002) was used. Data collection took place in the hospitals of the South Bohemian Region and the Vysočina Region. Questionnaires were distributed in written form. A total of 153 nurses were involved in the questionnaire survey. Results: The research study evaluated five dimensions of the work environment. The best rated dimension was the area "Working relationship doctor - nurse" (2.9? 0.6). The worst rated dimension was the area "Involvement of nurses in hospital affairs" (2.5? 0.4). In this area, the lowest average score was evaluated for the question whether nurses have the opportunity to participate in decision-making in the hospital (2.3 ? 0.7). Statistical testing did not confirm significant differences in the assessment of working conditions by nurses and the length of their practice (p = 0.344) or depending on their age (p = 0.251). On the other hand, differences in the assessment of nurses' working conditions depended on the type of ward. The working environment in the dimensions of "Material and human resources, p = 0.010" and "Doctor-nurse working relationship, p = 0.017" was rated statistically significantly better by nurses in Internal Medicine Departments. Conclusions: Possibilities for improving the working environment of nurses include: increasing participation of nurses in decision-making, e.g. by acting in advisory groups. Also, hospital management should improve listening and responding to employee suggestions.
Nursing care for a child with gastroschisis
NEŠVAROVÁ, Kristýna
The Master's thesis deals with the topic of nursing care for children with gastroschisis. It is a birth cleft defect of abdominal wall during which the baby's intestines extend outside. The theoretical part introduces the specifics of the prenatal and neonatal period and also deals specifically with gastrointestinal tract defects. However, the theoretical part is mainly focused on the topic of gastroschisis and explains the differences in comparison with omphalocele, describes the aetiology of the defect, its symptomatology, incidence and prognosis. It highlights the principles of prenatal care and methods of labour management. It introduces a prediction of intestinal damage in newborns with gastroschisis. The theoretical part of the thesis also mentions the possibilities of prevention and counselling and the principles of postnatal care not only for newborns with gastroschisis, but also for the mother of the child. An equally important section of the theoretical part is the overall surgical treatment of gastroschisis, an important part of which is quality nursing care provided by nurses. The empirical part of the paper is introduced with a case report of a boy who was born with prenatally diagnosed gastroschisis at a specialized clinic. The research part of the thesis also seeks to find out what knowledge nurses from intensive care units, intermediate care units and other paediatric and neonatal wards have about the principles of care for newborns with gastroschisis. Another research goal is to find out how cooperation between nurses who care for children with gastroschisis and parents of these children works in practice. Last but not least, the aim of the research was to determine the prognosis of gastroschisis in the lives of these children. A qualitative survey research was used to achieve the research goals. Data collection was performed using unstructured interviews with nurses who care for newborns with gastroschisis. Data was assessed using open coding and ATLAS.TI. The output of this thesis is an educational brochure, which contains an educational process for mothers caring for a child with gastroschisis.
Nursing Care in Patients with MRSA
Zajacová, Aneta ; Trojánek, Milan (advisor) ; Jirkovský, Daniel (referee)
The bachelor thesis "Nursing Care in Patients with MRSA" deals with the issue of barrier regimen in the context primarily with golden staphylococcus infection. The aim is to assess the attitudes of nursing staff about nursing care in patients with MRSA, analyze the adherence to contact precautions in the clinical practice and to identify the factors associated with potential non-adherence. The theoretical part of the thesis serves as an introduction to the topic, while the empirical part contains the results of the actual investigation and serves to explore the above objectives. The research method was a self-constructed questionnaire with 33 questions, which was distrubuted among the nursing staff in the surgical and internal inpatient wards of the adult part of Motol University Hospital. Responses from 67 respondents were included and the obtained data were statistically processed. The survey resulted in the following findings: Only 13 respondents (19 %) say that everyone on their ward always adheres to barrier measures. The most common situation where barrier measures are not adhered to is 'acute patient condition' with 27 respondents (40 %) and 'at night' with 12 respondents from the standard ward and only 1 from the ICU. The motivation for more consistent adherence to barrier measures is fear...
Attitude and Motivation of Nurses to Lifelong Learning
Bártlová, Erika ; Jirkovský, Daniel (advisor) ; Dorková, Zlatica (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of nurses' motivation for lifelong learning and their awareness of this topic. Target: The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to find out whether nurses have an overview of the individual forms of lifelong education of non-medical healthcare workers, whether and how they are motivated to participate in them, and what factors prevent them from participating in lifelong education programs. Methods: A questionnaire containing 22 questions was distributed electronically to the nurses. A total of 493 questionnaires were processed of which 348 general nurses, 70 children's nurses, 58 practical nurses, 8 midwives and 8 paramedics participated in the survey. The non-parametric statistical method Pearson's Chi-square was used for statistical data processing. Results: The results show that nurses' knowledge of individual programs and forms of lifelong learning varies depending on their age, length of professional practice and educational attainment. Nurses' interest in participating in lifelong learning programs decreases with increasing age and length of practice and is influenced by workload resulting from staff shortages. The biggest motivating factor turned out to be a higher financial reward. The most important demotivating factor is lack of time. Conclusions:...
