Principles of treatment of toxic assets in the European banking sector

This bachelor thesis deals with the problem of toxic assets and their importance for the European banking sector. It defines toxic assets, describes their origin, basic characteristics and history. The second part is about measures taken by governments in support of the banking sector. The governments largely use state guarantees for bank liabilities, capital injections and asset support. The thesis outlines the principles and objectives of state aid. The third part describes the practical application of the state aid in the European Union. This work also focuses on the Irish banking crisis. The last section is about the current situation in the Czech Republic and the banking crisis in the 1990s.
