The diploma thesis deals with the depiction of different national identities (Czechs, Germans, Jews and Poles) and their conflicts in the František Sokol Tůma's novels V záři milionů and Na kresách. The thesis focuses on the issue of nationalism in Ostrava Region and Těšín Region and on the way it affects the literary depiction of "others" and "foreigners". Another important part of the thesis deals with the specific setting of language frontiers and its influence on literary images of characters of different nationalities.
