The zoologists' point of view on the system of Vertebrata in biology and science curriculum
FORMANOVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor thesis deals with the current system of vertebrates that stays relatively consistent within the higher taxonomic units during the past 20 years. Nevertheless, these changes have slightly appeared in some textbooks for primary and secondary schools. The aim of this thesis is to suggest some compromise solutions to this system that would simplify the system of vertebrates, yet they would not state false facts. Within the optimization of this selection, I have prepared a questionnaire for the zoologists, in that they had an opportunity to express their opinion about the "problematical" taxonomies of the system. The part of this thesis is also a list of the current system of vertebrates and the analysis of selected natural history and biology textbooks.
Biology Textbooks in Sexual Instruction in Selected Schools
Kopicová, Eliška ; Novotný, Petr (advisor) ; Vančata, Václav (referee)
In this work I have been focusing on the educational use of textbooks, especially natural history textbooks, for sex education by the teachers of selected schools. First, I conducted a theoretical introduction to the issue of textbooks and teaching sex education. Then my interviews with teachers examined how sex education is taught and whether the teachers use their textbooks as teaching aid. I have thoroughly analysed these interviews, from which I then draw my conclusions: how textbooks are used as a teaching aid and the impact of the quality of textbooks on their use. Furthermore, I conducted my subjective evaluation of the textbooks that teachers said they use. I compared this review to the evaluation of teachers, so I could carry out a discussion of these views. As the result of my work I find that some of the teachers participating in my research use the textbook as teaching aid, some not. Their decision is not affected by the quality of the topic in the textbooks. Of much greater importance is the form of sex education the teacher chooses and how the topic is being explained. Hlaváčová, Lucie ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Králík, Miroslav (referee) ; Švecová, Milada (referee)
An evolution is considered the single greatest unifying theory in biology. Therefore, evolution is a crucial topic from the perspective of didactics of biology because it reaches contemporary paradigm of science education. These doctoral thesis deals with the educative aspects in the field of evolutionary biology. Given the fact that educational content and understanding of causal patterns in science may be influenced by the sociocultural background, the whole research is carried out in comparison with Great Britain. The main aim of the thesis is carried out three successive analyzes. First, the occurrence and the content of definitions of evolutionary terms in Czech and British science or biology textbooks have been compared (16 Czech and 16 British textbooks). Data were evaluated using content analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis. Subsequently, a comparison of teaching evolution has been made using a questionnaire survey (350 Czech and 122 British teachers) and interviews (10 Czech and 7 British teachers). Finally, a comparison of the Czech and British pupils' knowledge and opinions on specific evolutionary topics were obtained via a questionnaire (964 Czech and 97 British pupils). Statistically significant differences between Czech and British respondents were verified by Chi-square test...

Financial education at low secondary schools in the Czech Republic
Stárková, Pavla ; Dvořáková, Michaela (advisor) ; Tichá, Milena (referee)
This thesis presents the concept of developing financial literacy education for pupils of low secondary schools and corresponding years of multi-annual grammar schools enshrined in the existing curriculum documents. Thesis seeks answers to the question of whether the teaching of financial literacy within the specified range has the sufficient support in civics textbooks and textbooks specialized on financial literacy, while exploring the opportunities for educating teachers, who, in majority, have not met with this theme during their university studies. In-depth interviews with second grade pupils in the period before the start of systematic financial education, whose analysis fills the sekond part of the thesis, should diagnose the level of understanding and structure of their own ideas on selected economic terms. Comparison of findings about the structure of pupils understanding of content and methods of work available teaching materials should help identify potential bottlenecks or suggest appropriate procedures to financial education program for pupils better adapt. Keywords: Financial literacy, financial education, low secondary school, textbooks, children's understanding.
Present state of listening activities in elementary school music lessons, and didactic suggestions for the integration of these activities in school teaching
Poláčková, Marie ; Stříteská, Leona (advisor) ; Váňová, Hana (referee)
The present state of listening activities in elementary school music lessons, and didactic suggestions for the integration of these activities in school teaching The thesis looks into the employment of listening activities at contemporary Czech schools. Its primary aim is to boost the motivation of school children to listen to classical music by means of choosing their preferred pieces in music lessons. The thesis consists of two parts, the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part analyses available sources connected with listening activities, such as materials for teachers, and textbooks certified by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports as one of possible tools. It looks into the place of listening activities in the contemporary Czech curriculum, and presents also information about listening from the music therapy point of view. The practical part analyses the present situation in the employment of listening activities at our schools. It detects spontaneous preferences of pupils in listening to classical music, and suggests how to use these spontaneous preferences to enhance the quality of music education at school, and build and encourage positive attitude of school children to classical music. The practical part is based on the interview and experiment methods. The...
An overview of physicogeographical regionalizations and an analysis of their representation in geography textbooks for secondary schools
Trtková, Jana ; Müller, Miloslav (advisor) ; Matoušková, Milada (referee)
An Overview of physicogeographical regionalisations and an analysis of their representation in Geography textbooks for secondary schools Abstract At present there is a large number of various regionalisations which concern the classification of the biosphere. The aim of the thesis is to develop an overview of the regionalisations of the physicogeographical sphere in the individual constituent spheres of physical geography. Firstly, the thesis provides an overview in terms of the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and pedosphere. The second part contains an analysis of secondary school Geography textbooks with respect to the occurrence of regionalisation of physicogeographical spheres. The analysis is based on 3 selected criteria. The first criterion is the frequency of occurrence of the very term itself and its more precise definition. The second criterion examines whether textbooks contain graphical demonstrations of the analysed terms in a map. The third criterion enquires whether the stated terms related to regionalisation are interconnected and put into perspective with other spheres. According to the results of the analysis, the highest-scoring textbook is "Geografie I., fyzickogeografická část (2012)". As for the representation of individual regionalisations in the physicogeographical...
Methodological analysis of religious textbooks
Ležák, Lukáš ; Kolář, Pavel (advisor) ; Váňová, Miroslava (referee)
In the theoretical part of the thesis I introduce the current education legislation related to the subject of religious education. Religion is a part of the educational process and has a fixed position in the curriculum. This subject must be taught by a specialist with a pedagogical and theological training who has the double role of an instructor and a person providing value orientation for his/her pupils. The role of the teacher is not making children "swot" the most important themes, but introducing them to the essential principles and ideas of Christianity. The educational process is thus superior to the actual contents, i.e. instructing children in a Christian way is the concrete objective of every catechist. Orienting children towards a moral life is a very difficult challenge. A number of motivational elements and educational tools can facilitate the process of instruction. Arguably, the single most important tool since the introduction of comprehensive educational systems has been the textbook. Textbooks have been the subject of research and this research has by now become an established scholarly discipline. The theoretical part informs about the structure of textbooks, their functions and practical use. An essential chapter of the thesis is the didactic analysis of selected textbooks, in...
