Spirituality and religiosity of students of helping professions (in cultures with Christian and Buddhist traditions)
ŠVEHLOVÁ, Blanka
The bachelor thesis called {\clq}qSpirituality and religiousness of students in helping professions (in cultures with Christian and Buddhist traditions) deals with an importance of a religion and a spiritual life for a choice as well as performance of helping professions. This thesis would like to draw an attention to the importance of spiritual dimensions both of clients and professionals in helping professions themselves. In the theoretical part I first focused on definitions of important concepts related to the topic. Further, I look at the spirituality as a part of a holistic conception of a man, which should be a basis for a successful care for the clients. There are also for me important questions, dealing with a motivation of students for the helping professions, to which I devote specifically from the perspective of Buddhism and Christianity. The Christian-Buddhist dialogue bears through the whole thesis. It builds, in the context of a globalized world, on the need of a mutual understanding and tolerance. Last, but not least I also included a chapter dealing with parallels between religious and psychotherapeutic effects. The research part of the thesis consists of a questionnaire survey, a secondary data analysis and a group interview with students of the University of South Bohemia, where the Czech part of the research was carried out. I also hold the questionnaire survey during my foreign intership in Chiang Mai University in Thailand. In the discussion, I come to conclusions which confirm that helping professions are still inseparably linked to a religious faith and spiritual values. The comparison of the Czech and Thai environments clearly shows a conservation of the traditional Buddhist society in contrast with the various, in relation to the religion not sharply defined, European country. The aim of the thesis is a description of the spiritual life, religiosity and spiritual needs of university students of helping professions compared to the Czech and Thai environment. To achieve this aim, I tried to link the theoretical foundations with the research part of the thesis. I believe that by processing this topic I can contribute to an emphasis of the human spiritual dimension in the therapeutic process. Though it is named in the holistic concept of a man, but then it does not usually acquire clearer outlines. This thesis would therefore like to point out a constant topicality of this theme.
Spiritual Needs of Hospitalized Patients
SENDLEROVÁ, Klára
This Bachelor`s thesis has the title "Spiritual Needs of Hospitalized Patients." The work endeavors to capture the spiritual needs of hospitalized patients and the way they cope with their illness in relation with their religious belief; whether religious belief plays an important role in their lives. The theoretical part deals with human needs in general. It is followed by the characteristics of spiritual need, which is individual for every person. That is why the chapter on assessing spiritual needs is mentioned here. Furthermore, concepts of spirituality, religion, and religiosity are covered. This is followed by description of spiritual phenomena including personal relationships, spiritual knowledge, and love. I have also included spiritual health and spiritual distress here. The chapter Spiritual development in individual phases of life deals with the way we experience spirituality from childhood to adulthood. It is followed by the chapter Illness and hospitalized person, which mentions the effects of hospitalization on an individual, and also the meaning of religious belief during his illness. The last chapter is called Spiritual care, which includes pastoral care. The aim of the work is to find out, based on quantitative research, what kind of spiritual needs hospitalized patients have and how does the experience of illness differ in religious and non-religious patients. Two hypotheses were set {--} the importance of spiritual needs increases with age, and experience of illness differs in religious and non-religious hospitalized patients. Both of the hypotheses were verified. The research sample consisted of hospitalized patients from Moravian-Silesian Region, from the town Odry, hospitalized at the Chronic diseases ward and Internal medicine ward, and patients from Pilsen Region, from the city Pilsen, hospitalized at the Internal medicine ward and Surgical ward. The interviewing method was used in the form of questionaire data collection. In the discussion, the outcomes are compared with professional literature, and working hypotheses are evaluated. Current situation of the attitude towards spiritual needs, evaluation of hypotheses, and my personal opinion of the topic are mentioned in the conclusion.
Leninist-stalinist Communistic Ideology as a Pseudo-religion
PEKÁREK, Ondřej
The diploma thesis presented points out the presence of religious elements in Marxist-Leninist ideology. It examines the writings of the godfathers of this ideology(Marx, Engels, Lenin, or other less familiar Marxist, focusing specifically on their attitude to religion and religious thought in general. The thesis draws attention to the cognate elements of Christianiny and the very essence of Marxist-Leninist ideology, especially in terms of similar perception of historic eras of social development. The exposition is not limit to a description of Marxist theoretical attitudes assumed towards religious thoughts; the practical realization of these attitudes in Lenin- and Stalin-governed Russia is also investigated.
Specific Midwife´s Care of Jewish Woman
MAŘÍKOVÁ, Eva
The thesis deals with Jewish culture and its relation to nursing in the Czech Republic. In the introductory section the most important historical moments of Jewish culture are mentioned, the origin of Jewish culture, religious and philosophical ideas of Judaism and its branches are described. The most comprehensive chapter presents Jewish festivals and Jewish family life. These are the crucial indicators of lifestyle from the religious point of view. They show how religion influences adolescence, the man´s and woman´s role in the family as well as life itself. The theoretical part of the thesis is closed with the description of nursing care specifics. Topics such as basic nursing care, the care for a dying person, stepping of a Jew into life, i.e. circumcision, childbirth or abortion are covered. The exploratory question on specific needs of Jewish women while given nursing care by a midwife was asked. The aim of the thesis was to learn midwives´ awareness on specifics of nursing women of Jewish religion. The results of the research show that midwives´ awareness is not high, for example 50% of midwives are convinced that termination of pregnancy is absolutely forbidden in Jewish culture, the absolute majority of midwives could not give the definition of Sabbath. But on the other hand, this information cannot even be found in literature dealing with multicultural nursing care. The hypothesis that midwives do not have enough knowledge about specifics of the care for Jewish women was confirmed. However, it is also difficult to make Jewish women communicate openly and get relevant information. Therefore it is necessary to seek for specifics of nursing care actively to improve the quality of nursing care. But yet the research brought the insight into specifics of nursing care such as insistence on caregivers´ adequate expertise or demand of quietness and privacy. In the course of pregnancy women do not require more attention than usual, do not give up their professional careers, but they slow down the pace by relaxing more. The other hypothesis suggests that while providing them with nursing care it is possible for midwives to meet all the specific needs of Jewish women. The results of the research show that it is possible to meet specific needs in full if we do our best to seek for concrete specifics when communicating with a Jewish patient.

The Irish Conflict, An Example of Violent Conflict within Christianity
KENDALLOVÁ, Jitka
The Bachelor dissertation focuses on the problem of the conflict between Protestants and Catholics in Ireland. Special attention is drawn to the situation in the province of Ulster. The work focuses on two crucial issues. Firstly the systematic repression of the rights of minority groups and the inability by formally declared democracy to prevent violence in the face of the majority in a modern country like Great Britain. Secondly with reference to a particular Northern-Irish conflict it focuses on the problem of using religion for asserting political aims. Both of these problems lead to a municipal problem which is the relationship between religion, politics and society in 20th century. Analysis comes partly from reflection of the historical formation of the conflict. The conflict itself as a specific social phenomenon is examined with reference to the common theory of conflict of Ralf Dahrendorf. The problematic relationship between politics, religion and violence is examined with reference to the sociological concept of Mark Juergensmeyer and Max Weber and the concept of Christian ethics.
