The thesis deals with the complex solution of costumes of the theatre play The Misanthrope written by Moliére. The work is divided in two main parts: a theoretical study and a practical propose. The theoretical part examines the biography of Moliere, with my own insight into the cultural and historical background of the period. I tried to capture the essence of the playwright's inspiration and justify the form of his plays. This part is served mainly for my own understanding of Molière's life and work. Studing historical circumstances of the period helped me to better understand the play The Misanthrope. An important element during the research process was a field-trip to Paris. Working on Vladimir Mikes´s translation of the Misantrope, I paid attention to the detailed description the text. The second half of my work is devoted to the analysis of previous realizations of the play The Misanthrope in Czech Republic and abroad, thanks to which I explained my own concept of the play. These analyses are supported by illustrative photographs. In the practical part I justified my own choices of inspiration and the costumes, that were based on analysis of the dramatic characters. The second part also includes examples of costume´s drawings.

Šonková, Monika ; PETIŠKOVÁ, Ladislava (advisor) ; KRATOCHVÍLOVÁ, Zdeňka (referee)
This work represents a process of a search of a relationship to the theatre mask and costume, it is an evidence of the process of enquiry mainly through theatrical experience. The first part of the paper is introducing historical development of a mask, however it?s goal is not to describe the journey of a mask, ritual and theatre, it only sometimes refers to such anthropological studies. The next part is related to active application of mask in all aspects of human activities. Further work describes the finding of its own way of application and work with a mask and a costume and is reflecting on the authorship performances. Also the pedagogical methods of using a mask are being mentioned. The end of this work is dedicated to a research of a mask and a masked person in the context of theatrical work. In the appendix, there are the interviews with some of the contemporary artists related to the acting with a mask and use of mask in theatre plays. The discovering of a need and an effect of a mask through a play, through a possibility of change, that is a question for an actor. A mask is also an aesthetic component of theatre, it is a part of a costume, a part of scenography. But for an actor, mask is a partner. It is a chance to extend the limits of an expression into imaginary dimension. This work is a search into what exactly mask is, if the make-up-covered face of actor is a mask or an aesthetic supplement, if it can change the actor?s identity, if he needs it, but above all ? how can he approach it and make it his own.

Trpković, Andrijana ; GLOGR, Karel (advisor) ; DAVID, Milan (referee)
This dissertation is dealing with a phenomenon of opera from the view of a stage design in the first place. Stage design is a visual arts branch, and students find it mostly very difficult to work with music after two years of working with drama scripts, and there is no so much time to penetrate the opera. While I was beginning to work on my first task, Bizet?s opera Carmen, I found that my knowledge of opera is imperfect and that to find important moments of drama in music, and how to perform it visually is very difficult. That is why I decided to dedicate the first part of my work to history of opera, mainly from the view of scenography. This overview is slowly approaching to my own idea of it and penetration into the problem. This also helps me with my own concept witch I represent and thorough analyse. Another part of work is description and characterisation of few production of Carmen made in Czech theatres during past sixty years and finally kind of treatise about how is it possible to work with opera today.
