Changes in following the Romani traditions and customs
KVASNIČKOVÁ, Kateřina
This thesis deals with changes in following traditions and customs in the Romani lives and its aim is to map and describe these changes. In its first, theoretical part there is a description of important times in the history of the Romani living on the Czech land, in which the Romani were, often under the threat of loss of their freedom, and sometimes even life, forced to change their lifestyle and adapt themselves to the majority society. The influence of the society was the reason why the Romani stopped following some of their traditions and customs and did not pass them on to the younger generations of the Romani; that is why, with time, many traditions and customs became forgotten. The second, practical part contains interviews with concrete Romani, their assessment and discussion, in which there is a comparison of the information I got with the data gathered by the authors quoted. After assessment of the interviews it is evident that the older Romani and the Romani born before the 1980 are well aware of their traditions and customs and follow some of the traditions in their families. The younger generation, however, are not interested in the traditional life of their ancestors, they do not follow the traditions and customs by themselves; they have adapted their lifestyles and systems of values to the majority society; they often do not consider themselves to be Romani.
What does it mean be Gipsy in our society
KLÍMOVÁ, Eliška
My Thesis is aimed at the life of the Romanies in Czech society. The topic was chosen intentionally as relations between the Roma minority and the members of the major society belongs to current topics, and although the Romanies have already been living at our territory for several centuries they still remain unknown for most of the inhabitants. The aim of the Thesis was particularly to collect information on how the Romanies themselves perceive thein life in our society and to open discussion about different topics then e.g. crime or poverty. The scope was influenced by my owen work with Romay people and the isme is really familiar to me. The Thesis is dividend into two parts. The theoretical part describes the history of the Romanies, thein present situation in the Czech republic and deals with topics like racism and extremism. The practical part is based on qualitive and quantitative research. The first part interprets data obtained within a field research in selected location of České Budějovice. The research was performed in the formo f semi-controlled interview in May and June. The sekond part is based on the technice of content analysis of a primary document. A Romany magazíne Romano hangos was chosen for the purpose of the research. The selection set of my analysis consists of all the 2008 issues of Romano hangos magazíne. An article is the basic selection unit. To qualify for inclusion into the content analysis an article had to contain communication of how the Romanies perceive thein life in our society. The research results confirm that Romanies still feel like foreigners in our society.
Sensation and pain tolerance in the range of cultural vision
ČUTOVÁ, Jana
For the Diploma work we chose the theme: ``Algesia and pain tolerance across cultures``. We chose it because due to globalisation and migration of inhabitants cultures from the whole world reside in the Czech Republic. We decided for three the most numerous cultural groups in the Czech Republic, which are Czechs, Romanies and Vietnamese. These cultures, despite living in one territory, have a different history, different customs and traditions and approach differently to health and disease. They perceive pain differently, it has a different importance for them and they use different ways of calming the pain. To get to know these cultures closer in the area of pain and to describe differences between Czechs, Romanies and Vietnamese is the essential for a good quality professional and especially multicultural care. For better lucidity and coherence we divided the theoretical part into four sections. The first one is devoted to basic information about pain, its history, factors that affect algesia and its treatment. Other sections are focused gradually on each culture separately. We mention brief history of the relevant culture, pain treatment in the past and especially pain symptoms in the relevant culture, algesia and tolerance of pain. For the empirical section there were defined three targets and five hypotheses. We should find out and compare the differences in calming pain in Romany, Vietnamese and Czech culture in domestic and hospital environment. We should further find out whether the designated cultures consider pain a part of their lives and the last target was to find out the effect of pain on normal activity leading to initiation of activities for pain calming. The targets were established based on the assumption that members of nation minorities in the Czech Republic, in this work specially Romanies and Vietnamese, prefer non-pharmacological ways of calming pain to the pharmacological ones and that Czechs do not consider pain a part of their life unlike members of the nation minorities in the Czech Republic. Other assumption was that a church person bears pain better than an atheist. And last two assumptions were that Romanies have lower pain tolerance than Czechs and that Vietnamese higher. The research was carried out at a selected sample of representatives of all three cultures in form of questionnaires. On the basis of results it is possible to say that the work targets were met. The first two hypotheses were not proved and the last three were.

The active leisure activities for Romany children in the Prachatice region.
PETRŮ, Libuše
The Romany population is extremely disadvantaged nowadays. Romany children often pursue spontaneous activities and are vulnerable to pathological dependencies. It is a challenge for the majority community to prevent them from such activities and to offer Romany children quality leisure time activities. Spending leisure time effectively should be an obvious part of our children{\crq}s life. Leisure time projects have a favorable impact on the integration of Romany children. They are also means for social-pathological phenomena prevention in society. The aim of my thesis was to survey the attendance of Romany children at leisure time projects for children of majority community and their attendance at leisure time projects focused on Romany children. The research was conducted in the Prachatice area. I questioned providers of leisure time activities to find out about leisure time activities organized for Romany children and those organized for children of majority community. The results of my research show that Romany children attend regularly leisure time activities organized for children of majority community. Romany children also attend leisure time activities focused especially on their ethnic group. The comparison shows that activities offered for both groups of children are appropriate and welcome by all children. Romany representatives cooperate at program development focused on Romany children. But there is still a lot to improve in this cooperation. Greater activity of Romany parents will be welcomed. There is no Romany representative willing to get involved in organizing Romany children activities together with those who organize activities for children of majority community. The conclusions of my thesis may be used in a regional community planning. The organization providing services for Romany children may benefit from the results of my research. My research may be followed by another research, focused on Romany children who do not take part in any organized activities and whose parents do not cooperate with the organizers.
