Flora of Beaufort rock garden in the Bečov nad Teplou town (district Karlovy Vary)
ŠPAKOVÁ, Markéta
This thesis focuses on the analysis of species treasure of the former Beaufort rock garden in Bečov nad Teplou, which was developing intensively in the period between the World Wars. At that time, it was one of the most important collections of plants in our country. Due to a forced departure of the ducal family and their gardeners in 1945, the function of the rockery came to an end. The fragments of that rock garden are the foundation of Bečov Botanical Garden these days. The main contribution of this work is the comprehensive compilation of the initially cultivated plants and retaining the remaining elements of the historical rock garden in a native landscape for their further use. For this purpose, a complete research of a historical and present materials has been drawn up. To the present days, overall 16 herbal taxa have been preserved and other 24 taxa of our native flora should be kept as a typical sample of some biotopes. Eighty-three species of woody taxa have been preserved till now (we know only the genus of 26 of them). These taxa have been preserved from 1300 - 1800 originally grown plant taxa (from which 654 are already known from historical materials). The suggestions, for what purposes the garden should be used for and the plans of its planting are also a part of this thesis.
