Thanks to plentiful attractive locations, relative low costs, highly developed film infrastructure with rich technical background, and highly skilled film professionals, the Czech republic has become one of the most sought after locations for filming since 1989 for foreign producers, and it is intensively ever increasing. The production of foreign films became one of the main engines that drove the film industry into motion in the Czech republic. The dynamically emerging market has led to an even deeper infrastructure, an improvement in the quality of services, and increased professionalism in the workforce. Thus also leading to the betterment and continuity of the industry, even over such hurdles as the establishment of democracy, the fall of government monopolies, and without any government incentives, domestic productions managed to survive. The production of foreign films alone are a major economic supplier to the Czech republic, which is dictated by the volume of investor's monies, employment, taxes, and other associated contributors, even directly escalating to the marketing of the Czech republic in terms of tourism. Currently there is growing pressure from other competing European countries, which are become increasingly aware of the advantages associated with domestic and foreign film production, and thus have intensified their support of this economic activity by improving the quality of the local film infrastructure and offering fiscal incentives. Therefore it has become imperative to address these changing trends which have already had a negative impact on foreign production services in the Czech republic. A functional support structure for the film industry is needed in order to reverse these negative trends. The passing of a modern filmmaking law should back up this initiative. The following work describes and analyzes the complexity of the production of commissioned foreign films in the Czech republic, from its historical progression to its current situation, all the way through to it's importance for the domestic film industry as well as the country alone.
