A Comparison of the 2PB TR and the IT CY Methods for Determining Asphalt Mixture Stiffness
Pospíšil, Jiří ; Valentin, Jan
In the Czech Republic, an intensive preparation of the construction of high-speed lines according to the principles adopted from France has currently been underway. Its substructure is among others to be made of a layer of asphalt concrete. However, the stiffness requirements of such an asphalt mixture cannot simply be taken from the French standards because in the Czech Republic, a different type of test methods for its determination is more commonly used. This paper describes an experimental study that compares the results of the asphalt mixture stiffness determined by the 2PBTR method used in France and the ITCY method which is frequently used in the Czech Republic (as well as in the United Kingdom). As part of the study evaluation, a mutual correlation between the individual methods is found for the results.
The usage of asphalt and concrete recycled materials to roads
Svrčina, Vít ; Valentin, Jan (referee) ; Stehlík, Dušan (advisor)
Currently it is important to address the re-use of building materials from construction reconstructed or upgraded roads. Commonly used technologies cold and hot asphalt recycling are starting using to complement with technologies using cold asphalt mixtures with rejuvinators or softeners. This type of asphalt mixtures could be used in pavement constructions with lower traffic load. This thesis deals with the design and laboratory assessment of unbound and bound mixtures R-material and recycled concrete. This thesis is experimentally testing the possibility of using functional tests to optimize the design of asphalt mixture with 100% representation of R-material with a possible revival of asphalt emulsion with a rejuvenator.
Adhesion improvement between bitumen and mineral aggregate:theoretical principles and their impact on pavement structure lifetime
Trejbal, J. ; Demo, Pavel ; Nežerka, V. ; Sveshnikov, Alexey ; Valentová, T. ; Valentin, J.
Influence of nanomaterial-based adhesion promoters on maximizing of intermolecular interactions between bitumen and aggregate surfaces was studied. Topological and physico-chemical properties were described and it is shown that presence of promoters increases adhesion about 18%.
