Above-standard healthcare - comparison of Czech Republic with selected countries

In 2013, by the decision of Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic, the intention of standard and additional health care being separated was repealed. This led to chaos which, even though it is already long time ago, still remains. As law does not allow for the combination of standard and additional health care, it therefore depends upon health care providers who decide if and how will they provide additional health care. Hence, no option is given to the patient other than to pay full price, which makes it unaffordable for the majority. Dealing with this issue needs cooperation of professional associations, the public and politicians. The question is how to set the system in terms of equity, discrimination, and optimization. To answer this question, we shall get inspired by foreign countries - namely United States, United Kingdom and Germany. The paper will try to comprehensively analyse approaches of the countries to additional health care by using desk research method. The most important country to gain inspiration from, as far as Czech Republic is concerned, is the neighbouring country of Germany.
