South Korean film of 1950s: a political perspective
Pospíšilová, Ester ; Löwensteinová, Miriam (advisor) ; Šamánková, Karolína (referee)
This thesis deals with ideology and propaganda in the South Korean cinema of the 1950s. The theoretical part introduces the historical and ideological context of the era, the institutional and legislative framework including the National Security Act for the early Korean film industry and presents Korean cinema of the 1950s. The analytical part consists of an analysis of thirty-two movies from the era available on the YouTube channel of the Korean Film Archive. The goal of the analysis is to describe ideological manifestations, style of presentation of the state and its institutions, significant themes and motifs, the relationship between modernity and tradition, and depictions of foreigners and foreign languages in those movies. The second part of the thesis is highly subjective, suggesting possible directions for further research rather than providing a thorough analysis. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
