The functioning of CEFTA in the period 2004-2012

This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of foreign trade CEFTA member countries. The subject of this analysis is international trade of all CEFTA countries throughout its existence, but the main focus is on countries that were members between 2004 and 2012. The aim of this thesis is to assess whether the membership of these countries in the CEFTA helped liberalization of their trade and whether their CEFTA membership can prepare these countries for integration processes associated with the entry into the European Union. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part deals with the CEFTA establishment. There is described the historical development of economic and political situation in Central and Eastern Europe. Second chapter analyzes the foreign trade of founding CEFTA members and states which joined agreement before 2000. The third section of this paper analyzes the trade of CEFTA countries that were members between 2004 and 2012. Interpretation of the results of this analysis evaluates whether the countries has benefited from CEFTA membership or not.
