Philanthropy - as a humanist-motivated charitable activity that is designed to promote generally beneficial purpose - is one of the main sources of income for both non-profit organizations and individual social assistance recipients. Philanthropy in both its individual and collective form is on the rise in the Czech Republic lately. Theoretical section of this thesis is focused on dynamic development of entrepreneurship in the Czech Republic, which influenced willingness to be charitable in general, on defining the concept of small and medium enterprises and on philanthropy as a part of wider corporate social responsibility framework. Survey analysis in conducted in practical application part of the thesis. Main results are that small and medium enterprises take philanthropy seriously. Their contributions are usually regular and not at all symbolic. Most of the surveyed firms contribute to charity because they intend to help others and do not perceive charity as a marketing tool only.
