Image processing methods in application to Kármán vortices
Šimůnek, Petr ; Hudec, Martin (referee) ; Himr, Daniel (advisor)
This diploma thesis focuses on flow visualization and image processing methods, with the aim of applying this theory to the practical analysis of fluid flow with particles. The introductory part of the thesis reviews flow visualization methods that are important for understanding fluid behavior in different systems and environments. Then it focuses on image processing methods, that are crucial for the analysis of image data obtained from flow experiments. In the practical part of this thesis, these theoretical insights are applied to the analysis of a series of images of fluid flow with particles in a tube obtained with a camera. The main objective is to describe fluid flow and identify the Kármán vortex, which is generated when the flow passes an obstacle.
Design of nozzle for ozone admission
Krajcar, Ivo ; Hudec, Martin (referee) ; Rudolf, Pavel (advisor)
The thesis consists of three main parts. The first part contains a research focused on cavitation and fractal geometry. Furthermore it researches disinfection, mainly disinfection using UV radiation and ozone. It is concluded by mentioning advanced oxidising processes used for dangerous pollutant elimination and pointing out of positives and negatives of the individual technologies. The main goal of the fractal geometry research was to briefly explain what a fractal is and how to create different types and degrees of fractals. The second part of the thesis contains a simplified description of the design of a fractal orifice with air suction. This orifice is compared to a simple orifice with a circular opening in the last part of the thesis. Both orifices have the same cross section flow area. This part also describes a simple UV reactor design process. The third part of the thesis describes the experimental measurements of both of the orifices. The data gained from the measurements show that the fractal orifice has a better mixing influence than the circular one and also that the fractal orifice has a wider operational range than the circular one.
Measurement of pressure pulsations, influence of impulse piping and influence of pressure sensor
Zrebný, Radim ; Hudec, Martin (referee) ; Habán, Vladimír (advisor)
Master thesis deals with the measurement of pressure pulsations with a focus on the dynamic properties of commonly used pressure transducers and plastic hoses. The thesis includes a literature search of currently available techniques, a description of the procedure for data evaluation and the development of mathematical models that can capture the behaviour of the technique in the measurement of time-dependent processes. In the next section, experimental measurements are proposed and compared with the developed mathematical models.
Cross-flow turbine - reverse engineering
Řeha, David ; Haluza, Miloslav (referee) ; Hudec, Martin (advisor)
This thesis deals with the reverse engineering of the cross-flow turbine. The departement of fluid engineering was given a model of the cross-flow turbine many years ago, however it has never been put into service and nothing is known about it. This thesis describes the analysis of the turbine design, the replacement of parts that occurred to bring the turbine into service, and how the turbine was modified for the process itself. Furthermore, based on the dimensions obtained estimation of the parameters, for which the turbine was designed, was carried out. A measurement track was set up for that purpose and the turbine was measured in the laboratory conditions. Real values of the turbine parameters and the subsequent evaluation of the universal characteristics of the turbine were obtained by the measurement. This thesis includes also the construction of a measurement tutorial for students.
Evaluation of the Financial Situation of the Company and Proposals for its Improvement
Kilhofová, Hana ; Hudec, Martin (referee) ; Žižlavský, Ondřej (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on the evaluation of the financial situation of Broker Consulting, a.s. for the period 2015-2021. The evaluation will be made on the basis of financial analysis. Firstly, the objectives, methods and procedures of this thesis are defined. Then the thesis is divided into three parts. The first part contains the theoretical background, which is then applied to the analytical part. And the third part contains a detailed description of the proposals for improving the financial situation of the company.
Breakdowns caused by water hammer
Kuřátko, Jiří ; Hudec, Martin (referee) ; Himr, Daniel (advisor)
The goal of this bachelors thesis is to explain how water hammer occurs, listing often used protective devices that help mitigate this event and research of accidents caused by water hammer. The thesis deals with theoretical introduction into the topic, describing preservation laws for fluids, most common causes of water hammer and characteristics connected to this phenomenon. Then it mentions often used protective devices for both overpressure and negative pressure. Finally there are accidents caused by water hammer, some with unusual causes, which however still need to be taken into consideration when designing a pipeline.
Verification of the properties of the composite coating on the impeller of the pump and technical water pipes
Chmola, Martin ; Habán, Vladimír (referee) ; Hudec, Martin (advisor)
Research and testing of the properties of ceramic-composite coating Chesterton ARC 855 which can be used on pumps and pipelines for cooling water in nuclear power plants. In this diploma thesis can be found the evaluation of results from measurements in the hydraulic laboratory as well as onsite of the nuclear power plant.
Feasibility study pumped storage hydropower plant in a particular locality
Vaněk, Michal ; Štigler, Jaroslav (referee) ; Hudec, Martin (advisor)
Electric energy storage represents an area, which needs to be further developed in order to accommodate more installed capacity of wind and solar power plants in the electric grids. Pumped hydro energy storage still remains ahead of other storage technologies in terms of achievable storage capacity. However, environment protection which is one of the obstacles for further PHES development in Europe causes significant reduction of suitable sites. It is therefore useful to examine also those sites, which seem to be less favourable for PHES at the first glance. This thesis deals with a feasibility study of a PHES on place of a former graphite surface mine. The thesis includes computation of basic capacities, choice of a suitable machine arrangement and introduction into PHES feasibility issues in electric grids. Two possible solutions of a smaller PHES that differ in their capacities were suggested based on available materials about the site as well as on available materials from Francis pump turbine model research. In case of both solutions a binary machine set is used and the available capacities are in small tens of megawatts. However, there is a wide head variation at the site, which causes significant power variation. Concerning the feasibility of the PHES, it is very uncertain that the participation in the day-ahead electricity market, would provide enough revenue to cover operation and capital costs. A following economic analysis investigating the capital costs of this particular PHES would be beneficial, as well as more detailed design of the reservoirs.
Description unsteady operating conditions of siphon swirl turbine
Krejčiřík, Stanislav ; Habán, Vladimír (referee) ; Hudec, Martin (advisor)
The master´s thesis focuses on the behavior of the siphon turbine during unsteady flow. There are two possible conditions. The first condition involves commissioning the turbine. In this situation turbine works like a pump. In the second case, it includes shutting down the turbine by aerating the siphon and thereby breaking the water column. This thesis deals with the second case, where the results of the experiment and the mathematical model are compared.
Adaptation of the water mill
Dobšáková, Lenka ; Uttendorfský, Petr (referee) ; Hudec, Martin (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis is about adaptation of the water mill Cacovice. The first part is a description of the history of water mills and mill history in Cacovice. The second part deals with small hydroelectric power station, their functions and distribution. The third part describes the technical part of the small hydroelectric power station Cacovice and the fourth part is a proposal for a new Kaplan turbine, which could replace the existing Francis turbine.
