HYPŠOVÁ, Petra
The bachelor thesis deals with possible relations between psychosocial determinants and emotional intelligence of members of the Police of the Czech Republic. The theoretical part describes the emotional intelligence, the five-factor personality model and the psychosocial determinants of emotional intelligence among the members of the police. The empirical part aims to calculate how many factors create emotional intelligence measured by the SEIS questionnaire. The next goal is to compare whether there are differences in overall emotional intelligence and its factors between the Police of the Czech Republic and the general population. Considering the police, there the relationship among demographic characteristics and personality traits (measured by the NEO-FFI questionnaire) are investigated along with overall emotional intelligence. The research sample consists of a total of 531 respondents aged 18 and over. The research group is divided into the Police of the Czech Republic (N = 222) and the general population (N = 309). The results of the research did not prove the existence of a statistically significant difference between the Police of the Czech Republic and the common population in total emotional intelligence. However, a significant difference was found in the factor of understanding one's own emotions and emotions of other people and the factor of using emotions to solve problems between the Police of the Czech Republic and the general population. No statistically significant difference was revealed in the factor of the regulation of one's own emotions and of other people. No significant differences or relationships were found among age, education and gender of police officers and their overall emotional intelligence. An important finding, however, was to find relationships among all the personal dimensions according to the Big Five and the overall emotional intelligence of members of the Police of the Czech Republic.
