The subject of this bachelor thesis is to translate a selected excerpt from the third chapter of the book English History Made Brief, Irreverent, and Pleasurable by the American historian Lacey Baldwin Smith. The first part of this thesis consists of the translation itself. The selected excerpt comes from the first half of the third chapter entitled History Worth Remembering (to 1485), and introduces the English history from the first settlement of the island to the Wars of the Roses, which gave rise to a new dynastic house and marked a new era for the island. The second part of this thesis includes an analysis of the source text in terms of the extra- and intra-textual factors, a description of the selected translation method, and an analysis of the selected translation problems and their solution, including the translation shifts.
