Partonic showers and jets
Hladík, Ondřej ; Kupčo, Alexander (advisor) ; Spousta, Martin (referee)
Title: Partonic showers and jets Author: Ondřej Hladík Department: Institute of Theoretical Physics MFF UK Supervisor: Mgr. Alexander Kupčo, Ph.D., Institute of Physics ASCR, v. v. i. Abstract: In the present thesis we compare experimentally measured differential and integrated jets shapes with predictions of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) at the second order (NLO) of perturbative expansion. The measured jet sha- pes were taken from ATLAS experiment at LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy √ s = 7 TeV and were compared with these predictions. The jets were reconstructed by means of anti-kT jet algorithm with R = 0.6. The predictions at NLO QCD agree with data in wider kinematics region than predictions at leading order (LO). The agreement, however, is still in some kine- matical regions not satisfactory. Keywords: QCD, jets, jet shapes, LHC
Study of pp and PbPb collisions at LHc
Balek, Petr ; Dolejší, Jiří (advisor) ; Spousta, Martin (referee)
In the present work we study the identification of the particle using deposited charge per unit length in the Pixel detector (part of the ATLAS detector) wich can offer an almost analogous read-out of the deposited charge. First, we parametrically describe the dependences of the deposited charge to reduce the volume of the data used in further analysis. Then we use these parameters as an input for particle identification. We elaborate the method of the identification that allows us to say in most of the cases whether the particle passing through the detector was pion, kaon, or proton. This method can be reproduced using Athena tool that has been written.

Jets in Heavy Ion Collisions at the ATLAS Detector
Spousta, Martin ; Dolejší, Jiří (advisor) ; Chýla, Jiří (referee) ; Bielčíková, Jana (referee)
After some introduction to the quantum chromodynamics and physics of the heavy ions collisions, and after a brief review of the ATLAS detector, the attention is focused to the main aim of the work. The main aim of the work is to develop and test algorithms suitable for the jet reconstruction in heavy ion collisions at the ATLAS detector. After the detailed description of these algorithms and their implementation to the official software of the ATLAS detector, the author analyzes their performance and provides expectation of accuracy of jet measurements in the heavy ion collisions. The rest of the work focuses on a possibility to study the influence of jets by the medium created in heavy ion collisions.
