Present Central band of the Czech army and its activities in 2005-2010
Přibík, Jiří ; Malimánek, Karel (advisor) ; Divoký, Zdeněk (referee) ; Sušický, Jiří (referee)
The work is about activies of Central band of the Czech army in 2005-2010 and about reforms military music service. The reforms of military music service realized in the recent 20years and abolishment of most of military bands can be considered an almost complete extinction of Czech and Slovak military music culture and tradition of brass music, which have been formed for centuries by our outstanding army conductors and composers and which is recognized until our days in the whole world. These personalities spread brass music and its tradition as we know it from Russia, Bulgaria and states of the former Yugoslavia round Europe. Military conductors Julius Fučík, Karel Komzák and son Karel Komzák, Rudolf Piskáček, Franz Lehár (father of the famous composer of operettas), Bohumil Vejvoda (uncle of Jaromíra Vejvoda), Václav Voskovec (father of Jiří Voskovec), Rudolf Nováček (composer of march Castaldo), Jindřich Praveček and Adolf Scherbaum world trumpet virtuous are just few examples of many who helped to develop this tradition for hundreds of years. It is true that after the fall of communism and joining the NATO our country is not under the immediate threat of the war and it is natural, that numbers of soldiers and armed forces are getting lower. But to let extinct the important part of our music culture is almost inexcusable. Central Band of the Army of the Czech Republic and the Military band of Olomouc are the last representatives of military brass band and we cannot be sure what the future of these bands and all music culture will be. At present, when whatever tradition is of no value for or state, music is more a burden for state finances. We are living in time of media, data and music data carriers and it is possible that because of all these savings the foreign delegation will be welcomed with reproduced music and when we go to see a ballet performance there will play reproduced music.
