Norwegian piano music
Konopa, Ondřej ; Kopecká, Věra (advisor) ; Gregor, Vít (referee)
The goal of the work Norwegian piano music is to map out the important part of Norwegian music culture, to outline possibilities of its usage in concerts as well as in pedagogical practice and to present the results to the wide public. Public knowledge of the Norwegian part of the European cultural heritage is in comparison to knowledge in other national cultures quite poor. This concerns not only the Czech Republic, but mostly all European countries. It may be caused by the language as well as geographical barrier to information access. This work wants to use potential and special knowledge of its problems, make an analysis of usage possibilities in performing and pedagogical practice. Finally, the work wants to extend knowledge in European music culture to those Czech and foreign people who are interested in, and to offer them posiibilities of the practical use of this information.
The piano music by Leoš Janáček.
Procházková, Lenka ; Gregor, Vít (advisor) ; Tichá, Libuše (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to acquaint the reader with the personality and piano works of Leoš Janáček. It is especially directed at interpretation specificity of piano works by Janáček. Not only experienced pianists but also teachers and students of various degrees and types of music schools are faced with this problem. For this reason I tried to outline my thesis so that pieces of knowledge contained in it could be applied in the practice as much as possible.
The piano music by Čestmír Gregor
Veličková, Magda ; Gregor, Vít (advisor) ; Palkovská, Jana (referee)
In my thesis, I introduce a complete list of piano works by Cestmír Gregor, a contemporary Czech composer of modern classical music. 1 have tried to define his compositional techniques and sources of inspiration by analysing the individual pieces of music. I have found that the major features of the author's highly unique style are polyphonic thinking, the development of motives from small nuclei, expressive themes, plastic tunes, inventive work with rhythm, and the absence of a tonal centre which he compensates for by distinctive melodies . The author finds his inspiration in folklore, especially Moravian (Leoš Janácek), the works of Czech interwar avantgarde (Pavel Borkovec) and in jazz (Jaroslav Ježek). His music reflects the emotional states of a man living in the twenty-first century whose life style is predominantly determined by an urban environment. Gregor does not use any of the Musica Nova theories, instead he founded his own music language. The basis for his compositions is communicative music, which follows the patterns of human perceptive psychology. Gregor's concertant compositions are typical for a new instrument stylization and nontraditional attitudes towards instrument virtuosity (playing with a palm, elbow; an unconventional fingering). His piano sonatas and concerts enable the...
Piano interpretation and modern view of the notation
Gregor, Vít
The writer of this essay has chosen this topic, which is very important for all interpreters. Mostly it is about the view to work with score of piano music, its understanding and successful presentation to audience. The chosen topic requires applying of several methods that writer uses, e.g.: analyses of music script, experiment, confrontation of performance, generalizing of own and foreign experiences, intuition, which is very important for understanding of productions. The essay is divided into three parts. The first one is about the history of music score and work necessity of performer. The writer thinks that music score has a dualistic character. It does not explicitly express, what is needed for a real interpretation. In this part, the write thinks of music score from different views. Interpretative and art connection, the way from the first idea of musician to the ear and soul of listener - that is the point, which connects the whole part. The writer is concerned on questions of interpretative history, interpretative tradition, level of interpretation that are very important for all interpreters. The writer draws basic principles of interpretation from these psychological ways, there is also point out the necessity of theoretical and practical united access. The end of this part is about some...

Albanian Music Culture with a Focus on the Art of Piano Teaching System and Plays the Piano
Prifti, Egli ; Gregor, Vít (referee) ; Palkovská, Jana (advisor)
Albania is a country where western and eastern culture is naturally mixed. This characteristic is notable in all kinds of Albanian art. The piano came to Albania at the end of the nineteenth century and was till the sixties of the twentieth century mostly used as an accompanying instrument. In 1962, thanks to the opening of the Conservatory of Tirana, the piano became a concert instrument, and by the seventies it was considered a highly preferred instrument in Albania. The Communist era can be esteemed as the most important period for Albanian piano literature. Considering that the aim of this study is to make an introduction to the Albanian music by focusing on piano music, a considerable part of this diploma thesis deals with the Communist period of the Albanian history (1945 - 1990). Because of the word limit of this diploma thesis, only an overview to the Albanian music and a general analysis of the Albanian piano literature is introduced.
Sergej Prokofjev - Piano Compositions for Small and Big Pianists
Hubková, Terezie ; Gregor, Vít (advisor) ; Kopecká, Věra (referee)
Sergei Prokofiev is one of the foremost composers of the 20th century. He was also an excellent pianist, and therefore it is not surprising that he devoted a great part of his work to the piano. I would like to put near both aspects of Prokofiev's production in my thesis, the piano music for advanced pianists and the compositions which we could use in classes at the music schools. From the first group I have chosen the monumental sonata cycle which is formed of nine piano sonatas. I would like to concentrate on the First Piano Sonata op. 1 and the second movement from the Fourth Piano Sonata op. 29. I tried to to make a deeper and interpretative analysis. From the compositions for children I have inserted into my thesis the piano transcription of the symphonic fairy tale Peter and the Wolf op. 67 and Music for Children op. 65. At least marginally I allude Tales of an Old Grandmother op. 31, Prelude op. 12 and the part of piano suite from the ballet Romeo and Juliet op. 75. The piano compositions by Sergei Prokofiev don't often sound from the concert podiums. I think it is a pity so I would like my work to serve as a small inspiration.
