My bachelors thesis ( The double bass in jazz, with special attention on Czech jazz double bassists) consists of an introduction of Czech jazz double bassists, and the way jazz is played on this instrument. In individual chapters I describe my reasons for choosing this topic, and also brief hisorical context.A special chapter is dedicated to the technique of playing jazz on the double bass. This chapter also contains short notation excerpts, and two full transcriptions of Jiří Mráz´s solos. In the rest of the chapters I pay closer attention to the individual bassists.I present their biographies, discographies, and an analysis of their style, which is linked to audio examples found on the CD, that is attached to this paper. A bibliography, including web addresses I used, is attached, as well as a complete list of LP´s and CD´s I used for the audio excerpts. I conclude the treatise with a summary, and acknowledgments.
