Předkládaná disertační práce se zabývá konstrukcí profesní identity a společenské role katolických kněží v současné České republice. V kontextu silně sekularizované společnosti a vnitřních tenzí uvnitř katolické církve zkoumá, jakým způsobem duchovní sami sebe definují a jak se vztahují ke klíčovým společenským a teologickým otázkám (role žen, problematika LGBTQ+, vztah vědy a víry). Empirickým jádrem práce je kvalitativní terénní výzkum realizovaný v letech 2019-2025 v jedné české diecézi. Metodologický rámec kombinuje reflexivní antropologii s filozofickou hermeneutikou a kognitivně-lingvistickou teorií konceptuálních metafor. Výzkum poukazuje na to, že identita kněží je dynamickým konstruktem utvářeným skrze specifické metafory. Klíčovým zjištěním je identifikace tzv. noetické tenze - fenoménu, kdy jednotliví aktéři paralelně udržují a střídají protichůdné epistemologické pozice. Práce prokazuje, že tradiční dělení na "konzervativní" a "liberální" proud je nedostatečné, neboť vnitřní pluralita a napětí prostupují přímo identitou jednotlivých duchovních. Studie tak přispívá k antropologii náboženství a pochopení mechanismů, jakými tradiční instituce a jejich reprezentanti adaptují svou roli v podmínkách pozdní modernity. The presented dissertation deals with the construction of professional identity and social role of Catholic priests in the contemporary Czech Republic. In the context of a strongly secularized society and internal tensions within the Catholic Church, it examines how clergy define themselves and how they relate to key social and theological issues (the role of women, LGBTQ+ issues, the relationship between science and faith). The empirical core of the work is qualitative field research conducted in 2019-2025 in a Czech diocese. The methodological framework combines reflexive anthropology with philosophical hermeneutics and cognitive-linguistic theory of conceptual metaphors. The research points out that the identity of priests is a dynamic construct shaped through specific metaphors. A key finding is the identification of the so-called noetic tension - a phenomenon where individual actors maintain and alternate opposing epistemological positions in parallel. The work demonstrates that the traditional division into "conservative" and "liberal" currents is insufficient, as internal plurality and tension permeate the identity of individual clergy.
