Magisterská práce se věnuje osobě apoštola Pavla a jeho misi zprostředkovat novost radostné zvěsti veškerému publiku bez jakýchkoli předchozích kvalifikačních kritérií. Východiskem a biblickým pozadím práce je spor, který se odehrál v galatské církevní obci. Pavel se v něm vášnivě vypořádává s obhájci verze hlásání, v němž je přijetí Ježíše jako Mesiáše podmíněno předchozím přijetím a následným setrváním v židovské tradici a životní praxi. List Galatským je ve své podstatě sporem o autenticitu Ježíšových následovníků i sporem o Pavla samého jako zprostředkovatele a garanta pravosti evangelia. Jádro galatské pře se v různých podobách dějinami církve promítá až do současnosti. Zejména široký myšlenkový proud, souhrnně označovaný jako New Perspective on Paul (Nový pohled na Pavla - NPP), vybízí k přehodnocení tzv. tradičních přístupů. Pro zastánce NPP ani Pavel ani křesťanství nejsou něčím naprosto novým, odmítajícím či vymezujícím se vůči židovskému náboženství. Další myšlenkový proud označovaný jako Paul within Judaism (Pavel v rámci judaismu - PwJ), jde ještě podstatně dále, když Pavla vrací zcela do tradice judaismu. Práce si klade za cíl identifikovat klíčové prvky a ilustrovat naléhavost Pavlova poselství v Galatech. Ty pak poslouží jako kritérium pro komparaci a následnou analýzu pohledů... The Master's thesis "On a Razor's Edge: The Debate over Paul of Tarsus and the Essence of the Gospel, with Special Attention to the Polemic in Galatians" examines the figure of the Apostle Paul and his mission to mediate the novelty of the Gospel to a universal audience, devoid of any prior qualifying criteria. The foundational biblical context of this work is the conflict that transpired within the Galatian church. In this setting, Paul passionately confronts proponents of a kerygma in which the acceptance of Jesus as Messiah is conditioned upon the prior adoption of, and subsequent adherence to, Jewish tradition and orthopraxy. The Epistle to the Galatians is, in its essence, a dispute over the authenticity of Jesus' followers, as well as a contention regarding Paul himself as the mediator and guarantor of the Gospel's integrity. The core of the Galatian controversy resonates throughout church history in various forms up to the present day. Notably, the broad intellectual movement collectively known as the New Perspective on Paul (NPP) invites a reassessment of so-called traditional approaches. For proponents of the NPP, neither Paul nor Christianity represents a radical rupture or a definitive demarcation against the Jewish religion.
