cze Abstract:
This bachelor thesis deals with the relationship between education, freedom, and morality in the thought of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Immanuel Kant. Its aim is to compare how both thinkers understand the possibility of educating a free and moral human being. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter focuses on Rousseau's concept of natural education, negative education, and the law of necessity. The second chapter analyses Kant's concept of education as a process of discipline, cultivation, civilization, and moralization, whose aim is to lead a human being to autonomy and to acting from duty. The final chapter compares the concepts of both thinkers with regard to the role of the educator, the concept of freedom, and the origin of moral orientation. The result of the comparison leads to the conclusion that, for both thinkers, education toward freedom is connected with the tension between guidance and self-determination.
