cze Abstract:
Resonance energies are determined as eigenvalues of an effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian described by small matrices. An important role is played by the complex self-energy describing the cou- pling of discrete states to the continuum, whose energy dependence leads to a nonlinear eigenvalue problem. First, a linear model of two discrete states is studied. Subsequent- ly, fixed-point method and Newton method are tested for the nonlinear problem of one discrete state. In these methods, convergence problems arise due to the characteristic square root in the self-energy. Therefore, the self-energy is approximated by a Taylor expansion, whereby the problem is transformed into a quadratic equation. Finally, this approach is extended to the case of two discrete states, which is linearized by means of a quadratic eigenvalue problem.
