Emoce a rivalita jako zdroj zábavy: Genderová analýza pořadu The Bachelor

This thesis analyzes how the show Bachelor Czech Republic portrays women and gender roles. It is based on the premise that popular culture plays a significant role in shaping our perception of the world, and examines the ways in which this format uses women's emotions and relationships to create content that is appealing to viewers. The research was conducted through qualitative content analysis and thematic coding of 40 selected scenes from the second season of the show. The findings show that the rivalry among the female contestants may not be coincidental, but can be interpreted in relation to the competition's rules, editing style, and overall production. These practices also contribute to certain emotional reactions being portrayed as a natural part of female nature, thereby making emotions an integral part of the entertainment format. While women are portrayed in the show primarily through emotions and conflicts, the "bachelor" character appears as a rational actor with decision-making authority. The study also highlights the tension between the participants' declared independence and the structure of the format, which may limit their actions to a certain extent.
