Affective polarization represents one of the most discussed concepts in polarization research in recent years. The aim of this thesis is to apply this concept in the Slovak context and to examine its connection with ideology, more specifically with the culture wars between liberals and conservatives, which play an important role in Slovak political discourse. The theoretical framework is built on several concepts. These are mainly social identity theory, self categorization theory, symbolic ideology, culture wars, and affective polarization. Based on these theories, the thesis presents hypotheses concerning whether the strength of liberal- conservative identity is positively related to the level of affective polarization, whether this relationship is partially mediated by the perceived liberal-conservative polarization of the party system, whether conservatives have a higher level of affective polarization than liberals, and whether the strength of liberal-conservative ideological identity has a stronger relationship with this level than left-right strength of identity. The empirical analysis of the thesis tests these hypotheses through the statistical methods of regression and mediation analysis on data from the CSES Slovakia 2024 project. The testing yields mixed results. The strength of... Afektívna polarizácia predstavuje jeden z najdiskutovanejších konceptov výskumu polarizácie posledných rokov. Cieľom práce je aplikovať tento koncept na slovenské reálie a sledovať jeho súvislosť s ideológiou resp. kultúrnymi vojnami medzi liberálmi a konzervatívcami, ktoré hrajú v slovenskom politickom diskurze dôležitú rolu. Teoretický rámec je budovaný na viacerých konceptoch. Hlavne ide o teóriu sociálnej identity, teóriu sebakategorizácie, symbolickú ideológiu, kultúrne vojny a afektívnu polarizáciu. Na základe týchto teórií sú predstavené hypotézy, ktoré sa venujú tomu, či vyhranenosť liberálno-konzervatívnej identity je v pozitívnej súvislosti s mierou afektívnej polarizácie, či tento vzťah je čiastočne sprostredkovaný vnímanou liberálno-konzervatívnou polarizáciou straníckeho systému, či konzervatívci majú túto mieru vyššiu ako liberáli a či liberálno-konzervatívna vyhranenosť ideologickej identity má s touto mierou silnejší vzťah ako ľavo-pravá vyhranenosť. Empirická analýza práce overuje tieto hypotézy prostredníctvom štatistických metód regresnej a mediačnej analýzy na dátach z projektu CSES Slovensko 2024.
