cze Abstract:
The diploma thesis The Profession of a Photojournalist in the Era of Digital Media focuses on the transformation of Czech photojournalists' work in the contemporary newsroom and digital environment. The aim of the thesis is to analyse how photojournalists balance the demands of newsrooms, digital platforms and their own authorial approach, and how they reflect on questions of professional autonomy, authenticity and image ethics. The thesis is based on qualitative research conducted through semi-structured interviews with six photojournalists working in different types of Czech media. The research examines changes in everyday work routines, cooperation with editors, the role of social media in professional self-presentation, the ethical boundaries of digital editing and the perceived future of the profession. The findings show that, in the digital era, the work of photojournalists is shifting towards faster workflows, a greater accumulation of professional roles and the need to defend their expertise in an environment of visual oversaturation. At the same time, the thesis shows that the value of the professional photojournalist does not lie only in the technical act of taking a photograph, but also in the ability to preserve the credibility, context and ethical responsibility of visual communication.
