This doctoral thesis presents new results in the theory of ordinary and partial differential equations, with a particular emphasis on Lie symmetry analysis and its applications in continuum mechanics. The first part develops the foundational theory of Lie groups, their algebras, and jet prolongations in detail. Matrix representations of jet groups are constructed up to third order, offering a concrete and generalizable framework. The second part of the thesis focuses on the application of Lie symmetry methods to problems in continuum mechanics, beginning with a third-order ordinary differential equation derived from a generalized lubrication model and continuing with various elasticity theories formulated as systems of partial differential equations. The final part introduces the concept of helicoidal modeling, where the notions of oriento-position, rototranslation, and curvature are formulated within the framework of dual number geometry. The results lead to a compact and geometrically consistent formulation of equilibrium equations for media with microstructure (Cosserat media) and reveal a deep connection between symmetry, geometry, and the physical behavior of material systems.
