This study was focused on a hybrid water treatment strategy utilizing adsorption and subsequent photodegradation. A Surface-modified zeolite adsorbent was used to capture diclofenac (DCF), a Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) and an emerging pollutant1. The adsorption process was followed by photodegradation under UV irradiation combined with H2O2, or under visible light irradiation with the use of metal-free photocatalyst, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4). The process addresses higher demands for tertiary wastewater treatment, caused by the rising concentration of drugs, pesticides and other persistent pollutants, by lowering the overall wastewater volume to be treated, while utilizing low-cost substances such as clinoptilolite and g-C3N4\n2.
